FyrFighter2004
Okay guys with my first fish coming tomorrow morning(picasso clown) im wondering what everyone does for regular feeding. pumps on or off, what to feed and all that fun stuff. I have formula one flakes, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp. So lets hear it, what do you do for your feedings? Link to comment
Brian Crook
Hmm, well that is definitely a topic that could be highly debated. I have 5 small fish: two clownfish, a midas blenny, a green chromis, and a firefish. I feed a few pinchs of the small pellets every day, and I usually feed one of the frozen cubes of brine shrimp every 1 to 2 days. I alternate between night and day feedings so that other inhabitants in the tank that prefer nighttime can also enjoy a solid meal. I can tell you for sure that I am definitely NOT overfeeding. I may actually be underfeeding my tank, which is something I have been thinking a lot about lately. My Midas Blenny is looking awfully thin Anyways, that is probably about the average that most people on here feed their fish (I would assume), but I would also like to hear from others. Congratulations on your first fish, I hope it's Picasso patterns are beautiful! Link to comment
wsamsky
brian what does your blenny eat? Link to comment
madcaptains
Hi, I feed mostly with brine shrimp, spirulina flake + other kind of flake, filter feeder stuff. I also like to try new things just to see if they like it. Link to comment
Duncan
Twice a week, I feed pellets for fish and inverts. Pump off. A pinch of Cylopeeze mixed with zooplankton, pump on. And some chunky seafood for my anemones. I also feed my guys with salifert coral food daily. Link to comment
Brian Crook
My blenny eats the brine shrimp and hard pellets. But he can only fit one pellet in his mouth and it takes him a long time to swallow it. I think that's why he doesn't get as much food as the other fish. Link to comment
Nick's Reef
I feed spectrum pellets daily, mysis every three days, and cyclopeeze once a week. I really want to stop feeding the pellets because i tend to overfeed and I'm getting some anoying algae on my sandbed. Link to comment
nano-paul
Gosh you guys feed alot. I feed a mix of formula 1 and 2 once a week. Brine shrimp unless its enriched in something has no nutritional value. I would switch to mysis. Link to comment
Reef Chicks
Sorry for the hijack, but in reading this you guys got me worried now. I have 2 ocellaris and a yellow goby. I feed them frozen mysis and cyclopeeze every other day or so, frozen brine on occassion. Am I UNDERfeeding them? My clowns have these black spots that ARE NOT parasites, so could it be stress from hunger? Link to comment

I would say you are OVERfeeding IMO. Link to comment
Reef Chicks
Nope, no hosting as of yet. I even have a bubble tip (as you can see in the sig) and they've never been near it. Link to comment

derekandrenee
I have a Citron Goby, Blue-Green Chromis and a Peppermint Shrimp + 4 Hermits and 10 varied snails. I feed them twice a week 1 cube (or 2 halves of different stuff), rotating often the type, I feed the corals daily and i also give a pinch of flakes twice a week. I'm thinking of switching to Cyclopeeze daily, though. Link to comment
nano-paul
Brine Shimp have no nutrional value???? is that like feeding my tank a big mac?No, its like feeding your fish nothing really. If you want to feed brine it needs to be spirulina enriched. I still prefer mysis and you will find alot of people do. Link to comment
Fade2White12
I only have a pair of Occys right now. Three times a week I crush up some flakes, mix with tank water, and turkey baste the mix into my powerhead. This keeps them active, and allows to eat in a more natural manner. I also give them pellets and krill/cyclopeeze on occasion. Link to comment
Reef Chicks
Yea, my brine is enriched with spirulina. What do you guys feed your corals though? And how - do you throw it in the tank, spot feed them? Link to comment
madcaptains
I feed with brine shrimp and spirulina. should I mix them together or is it fine this way? Link to comment
twenty12
I'm getting my first fish this weekend or next (depends on the tank and time I have) and started researching feeding. Can anyone point to a good thread or site with how to feed. I just can't seem to find the basics of how much, what kind, types, etc for a given species. I figured i would keep looking and talk to the lfs, but any direction from you guys (and gals) would be awesome. Still trying to decide on initial fish to get to.. which will affect feeding. But some fishes I am looking at are a Chromis, Clow, or FireFish at this time. Link to comment
Brian Crook
Maybe I should try switching to Mysis shrimp then. Perhaps that is a reason why my Blenny is really thinning out. I am worried about him Link to comment
