The Frog
I was looking through a magazine and I found something called the Bio System Power Filter & Oxy Surface Skimmer. It's basically a hang on power filter with a Surface Skimmer. It has Mechanical, Chemical, and Biological filtration all in one, because of the Biological sponge, Mechanical floss, and Chemical Carbon in the cartridges that you put in (and double all that, since you put in two). I was thinking of getting the 95 gph one for my 10 gallon tank. Any thoughts? Comments? Warnings? Link to comment
benjad
I'm currently in a similar dilemma. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=142669 Leaning towards the filter you mention, but considering the 25gal model (for a 10 gal tank). More flow, and more space to convert into a refugium later. Possibly buying this in the next 24 hours. Link to comment

benzou
ehh... it seems fairly cheap, and it might get rid of the surface film. Most people will warn you against getting mechanical filters since they tend to produce a lot of nitrates while removing debris. If you already have a hang on top filter, you can easily convert it to surface skim with a little plastic box (just let the water come in over the top of the box, and have the intake in the box. If you decide to get a protien skimmer, there are many hang on top ones that you can modify or buy a surface skimming attachment for. I would suggest this, however, it will be much more expensive. It's really a matter of what you wish to keep in the 10g. Link to comment
benjad
http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...t&p=1471587 Overall I must say, I like it. Still playing with it. Did a great job cleaning up the surface. In considering a pvc pipe mod for the intake, one of the things I realized is that any water loss (evaporation) would be expressed in this chamber if it was fixef height (floating is a good thing). Also, concerned that floating debris would fall into the pipe, and then float ontop of the surface there, without ever entering the filter. This product is well balanced to do both of the above tasks. Link to comment
benjad
Ran into my first real issue with this product today. Pump was giving me more and more grief restarting. Pulled everything out for a good cleaning, and checking over. Found the bottom of the impeller rod looking like below. DF&S gave me the number for the manufacturer in NJ to order a replacement. Imagination Gold. Will call on monday, and see what their response is. Link to comment
r20crazy
I have the SAME EXACT problem, except the shaft on my impeller is rusted through over half way and has begun to wobble. it is just 'coated' steel, and when the coating wears off the rusting begins. I'll have my ac70 in a week to replace it, and will make a diy 'surface skimmer' with PVC pipe. Link to comment
