gonzo.pete Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Hi guys. I'm new to the forum, though I have been lurking for some months now gathering info and researching the hobby. So much information here-very impressed with everyones passion for nano's. So down to business. Can anyone please tell me what these little growths are? I know there's an Aiptasia there but its the other two types I was wondering about? (just off centre to the right and all the way up the centre line) Without starting another thread could someone tell me why I'm getting a thin green algae film covering everything. The tank is about 2 weeks old and the water tested virtually free of Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites (I had a head start with water & gravel donations from an established tank) I know to expect a brown algae bloom but I can scrub this stuff of the glass and it will have returned in an hour or two. Heres a picture of the tank (algae gone though-scrubbed off) Thanks Guys-I look forward to working with you
Rcpilot Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Those are some type of soft corals. Commonly referred to as softies. I'm no expert, but probably leathers of some sort. KILL that aiptasia!! NOW!! Unless you want a tank full of them in the near future. Get a syringe and fill it with boiling water. You can even squeeze a bunch of lemon juice in there for good measure. Stick it right down the throat of that anenome and squirt the little bastard.
The Nomad Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Hard to say without a better pic...if I had to guess, I'd say xenia, anthelia, clove or colt...
gnomeinthesea Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 colt and some xenia here is my colt and xenia thay are great corals hardy and nice the xenia is a "pulse" coral it flaps on it's own
gonzo.pete Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm just glad I've got some "free" corals to start my tank off. A little annoyed today though. I woke up to find an Aiptasia had come through the hole by the tall spindly coral and stung it to bits. I now see why everyone hates them so much. His time is limited though, my friend has a Syringe & Needle with some sort of Aiptasia killer so I'll be doing a little Anemone cleansing this afternoon.
