Here are some new pics of a few corals waiting for the rock work to be done.

I finally brought my nudi free rainbow montipora home. It is huge! It has been under VHO's for the past 6 months fighting nudis and I have finally defeated them!....Now, it just has to color up again under the halide! :D

Ok, heres a "What is it" for you guys. What type of SPS is this. Velvet red looking flesh, with small single arm polyps(like green pavona). It encrusts, and grows up. I dont know but it sure is cool!

Random zoa and paly shot.

Check out the little green one on the bottom right. Never seen those before!

Trust me, I know the difference. I have owned this piece for over a year. We have several large pokerstars at the shop right now.

If you look close on the point of growth in the middle left of the pic, you can see two polyps with a little orange in them.

It has been under VHO's for 6 months plus while I was battleing nudis on it, need to color up. Also, rainbows only show orange and red on the new growth, the thing has completely encrusted the plug, and all the new growth is under the actual colony. It is lifting itself up, I have to move it every couple days or it starts to attach to the egg crate. I need to finish my rock work and get it placed. I have some old pics I will try to dig up where you can see that it is a rainbow.

Screen name, I dont really have a FTS for you right now, everything is just laying in the tank until I do the rockwork. I wanted to let everything settle and do a couple water changes first because my no3 spiked to like 5ppm after the move. I did one last night and I plan to do another change tomorrow. Then I will start on the rock. I have to add another 25lbs to the tank. It is going to be a pain with all the coral.

If I had to take a wild guess I'd say its a Psmacora, but I've only ever seen green ones and they usually have a different growth structure. Here's a pic of the mother colony that I'm getting a frag from for reference:

Thats not my pic either, for reference.

Can you get a closer picture of the polyps?

Thats the most similar looking polyp structure I have seen yet!

I will try to get a close up later.

I think you guys are right, maybe I have a red variation?

I looked up pics and the growth on the larger colony at the shop looks the same.

Yours looks more like P. superficialis. That green one posted above is most likely P. contigua.

Here are a couple of my superficialis. I think the encrusting looking mound you have is similar.

Here is a little sneak peak at a still unfinished aquascape., I still need to finish the equipment cabinet, bottom tank trim, and put the black background on. I also need to place the majority of the corals on the racks and add some new stuff still, but everything is coming together nicely!.....After 7 hours straight of working on the tank yesterday!

I had to hack the red cap back to get it to fit, so lots of new monti cap frags!

Still two mounds, sps side and zoa side. I added about 20 lbs of rock, and removed a lot of GSP and brow zoas! I cant wait to finish it up, it is looking just how I wanted!

I am going to order my second 150w MH today or in the next week at least. Cant wait to how it will look and grow with 300w total MH.

I am gonna break my central AC keeping this tank cool this summer!

more light is good! but for the price of a vortec you could have a chiller.

fans, fans, fans :) evap is your friend

I dont own a vortech, two people I work with do.

I would run a chiller, but I have no place for it. I have a 120mm 3 speed fan on there, I plan to add another one with the new light. They keep the tank around 80*. I also have another smaller fan that points at the compact flourescent ballasts.

Yesterday I was taking the wire bruch to a bunch of bobby brown zoanthids(lots of fun!...NEVER put a pink or brown zoa in your tank unless you are sure it isnt a bobby brown!), and the first one I touch squirts me right in the eye. I kinda freaked for a second, then decided I would just keep going or I would be dead in 20 minutes lol, one or the other. It didnt even make my eye burn much less kill me. IMO the palytoxin thing is way over rated.

For humans, yes, but for other corals a definite no. Be careful with the amount of zoa's in your reef, if enough of them release the palytoxin, you'll see your SPS suffer from it, I've seen it many times before. Also, you are having great growth rates with the single 150 over your tank and your temp is hovering at 80. IME by adding the second halide you are opening up a huge can of worms. Increasing light alone will not increase your growth rate. In fact, I believe you are going to experience the opposite effect. You will shock your corals with the increased light, and overheat your water. This is going to throw the delicate balance we all try to achieve in our aquariums off. If you can't run a chiller, you are going to have serious evaporation. In a 37gal tank that is going to swing your salinity unless you are next to the aquarium constantly to top it off. If you absolutely must have the other halide, try and figure out a way to run a chiller before you invest in it. If you absolutely can't run a chiller, stick with what you have. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Hinecken,

I disagree about the zoas, I think you can have as many as you want, with SPS, and still be fine. We have several tanks that are LOADED with zoas and SPS, even some with tons of leathers with SPS growing right next to them.

I have plenty of growth, but the center brace on the 37 gal tank really just annoys me, and throws a shadow across the middle of the tank.

I am confident that I could control temps with two MH's in my hood, it would just take the right setup.

I have a ATO now so evap isnt an issue.
