Sunpod Lighting

Okay, I just lost my lighting on my JBJ, I had it for a long time before I started stocking it so the warranty is not valid. Anyway I ordered a 150W Sunpod for my 24G. Anyone think there will be a heat issue. Should I have went with a smaller light. Not sure if I went in the right direction. I figured hell, if I have to get new lighting I might as well get enough lighting that I can put anything in there.

150 watt on my bio-cube. Love it, have not seen any heat problem. But it is winter not summer so we will see.

I just set up my 24 gal aquapod last night. The water temp was 63F as it was stored on the basement floor. Left the 150w sunpod on all night and today the water is at 76.2F. This is with an ambient temp of 69.4F. The light has been on 13 hours.

The way I figure it once the initial 'break in' is over later tonite I will never run the light this long. 8-10 hours per day. Right now I am curious how far above ambient the light will heat the tank. I do not anticipate heat issues since my house is air conditioned in the summer, but I also am doubting the heater I bought will be needed :D

i run the 150W over my 20G. i run a computer fan when the lights are on and only see a 1 degree increase. i'll prob add another fan during the summer, but fans are enough to keep the temps at bay.

A new Sunpod has a breakin period? What exactly does that entail?

I believe that he is just referring to the period of time it takes for the bulbs color spectrum to stabilize. Usually takes around 80-100 hours of operation.

Well, I got it last night and hooked it up. Looks great, will just run 2hrs day for rest of week so that I do not shock my corals. Brings out the great colors in my tank. Moon lights look great also.
