douglam Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Why does my bubble coral keep doing this? It does it about once a day? is it going to die on me?
spanko Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Looks pretty unhappy don't it? what kind of flow is it in? They don't like to be in high flow areas it tears their flesh (is that called flesh on a coral?)
kookie_guy Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 does it have brown looking slime coming from it's mouth? the crappy thing about anemones is that they poo from the same opening, hehe. so from time to time they will fully deflate they tentacles to purge their system. if it does it and comes back after a few hours, then you have nothing to worry about.
douglam Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 it has a little bit of flow on it.. the bubble move alittle, but it is all bubble up and then it will just do this randomly for about an hour of so but i think it does it too often to be expelling waste. it is in the lowest flow part of my tank. I did just increase the circulation in my tank and upgraded the lights is it possible it is just still adapting?
spanko Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 possible. Let's see who else chimes in here. My guess is still too high of flow.
douglam Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 i noticed it right before i made the post and it is already bubbling back up alittle bit. its mouth is closed now and its tenticles are starting to fill with water again since its dark in the tank now.

Rubicon06 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Shrinking that much I'd say pooping or something spooked/touched it. Mine shrank when the flow was too much, but not down to the skeleton like that. Do you feed it meaty foods? When I'd feed mine mysis or cyclop it would shrink like that every 2-3 days to poop.
douglam Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 i have feed all of my corals phyto plex but he seems to do it every night... if it i the flow will he adapt to it or will he die. its not strong enough to pull him apart but apparently hes not happy with it right now
douglam Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 GOOD NEWS I FOUND THE BUBBLE CORAL A PLACE WHERE IT IS HAPPY... atleast 80 to 90 percent of it is happy.
supahtim Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 how old is your tank? what are the water parameters? Tim
breebauer Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I have a bubble that I bought damaged and I'm trying to nurse back to health. Mine can sometimes deflate almost completely if some flake food lands in it, or while it's eating mysis that I've spot fed it. Sometimes it deflates for no apparent reason, that I know of. (Actually it's deflated now, and I just got home from work, so I haven't fed anything.) I've tried it in a few different spots in my tank while trying to give it the best spot to recupourate. I know that each time it was moved, it seemed a little pissed for a few days, so I haven't moved it in some time. It's on the side of my tank now, out of the way, in low flow, medium light. Since I bought it damaged, I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but that's what it does. Other people here are telling me that they're pretty hardy. Slowly, very slowly it seems to be healing itself. I rescued it from my LFS for $10 and it was damaged by a fish that bit it right in the middle. It looks more like a donut than a bubble coral. The reason I even decided to try to fix it is because it's a real bright green color, and the ones that I've seen were all white to flesh colored. I can't wait until it looks like the pictures of everybodyelse's bubble coral, but that day is probably a long way away. And if not, well, I'm out $10, big deal, I tried. Good luck with yours! Try not to move it around too much.
RC51 in SD Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Mine deflates every night when it "goes to sleep" but nothing like that.
