Water quality in a tank is number 1, i don't ever want to make mistakes and i haver never used tap water i buy distilled and demineralized water. I'm quite interested in the RO/DI filter everyone is talking about. I have a few reef books and have read about them. But it never said mandetory, now don't get me wrong i don't want to play russian roullette, its bad enough i got a crazy crab that wants to eat all my anemones. To kill everyone off because of pollutants and metals seems a waste of all the money i've dedicated to this aquascape. But i am going to upgrade from my 10 gallon to the 150 gallon in 5 years, so to buy a ro/di filter for my ten gallon seems a bit of a waste of money when i for sure need one for the big tank down the road. I am not cheap, i am simply thinking of the waste of materials that i will no longer need once i retire this ten. Hence why i don't want to get rid of my crab hes moving on up in life in a few years. and from what i've researched he doesn't get over 2" in diameter. If i bought him live seafood and chopped it up and fed him that, would it deter him form eating my anemones and corals? Please i need some indepth answeres from all you that know. And believe me i can handle a tongue lashing if i deserve one. I want to get this right so all the experienced reefeers let me have it

If you want the BEST ro/di and got lotsa money laying around, check out the www.spectrapure.com maxcap system...

Otherwise, I really like airwaterice.com they have some good priced systems that are higher quality than most of the average stuff you'll find.

It won't really be a waste of materials, just get the 75gpd unit, and you get a big water storage container to always have water ready. Every 6-12 months, you should replace the carbon and prefilters, and replace the DI as the TDS starts to creep up anyway. Might as well buy it now to get some good use out of it.

On the crab, if he's eating coral now, I'd imagine he'll always be a coral eating risk. If you can't catch him, you can always hunt him down with a sharpened chopstick or a steak knife...
