maroonclown
I'm going to build a custom tank for a nano-reef, and it will be between 3-14 gallons. What I would like to know is how to build it, how thick the glass should be, and should I build an integrated sump? This will be the first aquarium I will build, so any weird shapes are definently out of the question. What would be the best demensions to build with? I thank anyone for their advice in advance. englishreefer
i have just put my diy fuge onto my tank, i think 4mm glass is more than anough for a small tank, why not build an intergrated sump, less glass needed and you dont have to worry about leaks from drilled holes. any demensions you like would do. but remember it would need less light if it is shallow. i was thinking of building a tank that is 30 x 10 x12. this meaning the sand bed of 2 inchs would keep water depth of only 8 inchs but with alittle more room going back to not cram everything at the front at the same time as having a larger viewing area. hey maybe thats somthing to start on my next day of I Link to comment
lizbeth
I'm a fan of cubeish sized tanks. As for exact dimension and glass thickness it depends on the size tank. If this is your first nano reef I suggest you go with a 8-12 gallon size. There are several posts here about building tanks, do a search and see how others have designed their set ups. maroonclown
Do you know how I can get the trim for the top and bottom of the tank? Link to comment
longra
Look at www.garf.org. They have a DIY section that tells about how to build tanks. It's a really good site. Link to comment
