plexi cover on my 12g?

If i had a plexiglass cover custom made for my 12g NC would it be beneficial? or would it cause other issues? I guess i wanna know if it's worth it. basically i want to avoid hooking up an ATO. The light comes in on thursday so i want to be prepared.

It would be detrimental! Little to no gas exchange!

don't get plexiglass. it bends downards due to its own weight. i would get glass cut if you go that route but leave the rear chambers open for temp and gas exchange

i kind of have the same question- i want to prevent fish from jumping out and water from evaporating but not at the light quality's expense... pros/cons for lid options for both of us?

i've sort of been experimenting with this and here is what i found:

1) full coverage gives you heat problems

2) plexiglass bends too much

3) do it right the first time and then never worry about it again

Of you get one, I'd recommend like said above, you leave the rear chambers uncovered for both heat and gas exchange. A cover over a cube running MH will make the tank hot more than likely. Also perhaps consider getting a couple or few slits cut into the plexi (not sure if you can do that with glass) for additional heat venting...

Better Evap then high temps and masive lack of gaseous exchange.

Sw needs to "breath" ALOT more than FW.

SW fish tanks...eh ....not nearly as much as a reef but they need to.

Reefs..... Go naked, or home.

 

I seriously wouldnt do it. To much risk of a completely avoidable dsaster.
