I was at the LFS and was asking about a small light for a fuge in the back chamber of my 12g Nano Cube. One of the employees told me that pretty much and light will do. Is this true? Can it just be a regular desk lamp?

i use a "full spectrum" CF light from Home Depot with great success. I can't keep up with the chaeto grown and have to trim my 24 AP every week. I think the spectrum is supposed to be 6700k. It was only 20 bucks and came with the bulb (also 2x as a great reading light!) The Home Depot is Santa Clara carries it so the ones in Hayward probably do too. I believe it's made by "Hampton Bay."

You can probably use a regular desk lamp if you don't mind the heat output and high energy consumption. Grab a "daylight" CF bulb and stick it in there, it should work.

also, some people use LEDs -even using the LED ropes inside their tanks. I am skeptical of this practice as I am scared of electricution but my point is that even the light from white LEDs seems to work.

good luck.
