Salut!

This is my second tank. I got sick of pining for my BC14 so decided to go pico at work. My office is next to a lab so there is plenty of distilled water available for free!

I'm not planning to put any fish in this one. Just some cuc and maybe a shrimp after the cycle. I'm keeping the stock lighting and just going with shrooms and zoos for the moment. I'm putting my old BC14 stock pump in back of the rockwork. Might be too much flow - but we'll see. Any suggestions for an alternate pico pump?

Bubbles3660,

If your LFS handles turtles, they make some pond pumps for them rated around 60 or so gph and they are about the same size as the stock BC pump.

That would be around half the flow and should keep the heat down too.

Yes, that sounds ideal. I'll still try the BC pump as an experiment. It's 135 - but I'm going to put a splitter and two outflow nozzles to lower the flow. Ambient temp at work is 69F 24/7 - so maybe heat won't be an issue? (wishful thinking)

The evap rate on this pico is much higher than my cube - even with a 75W in-hood halide. Makes me glad I didn't go topless.

-BUMP- -_-

It was a 3-gallon tsunami with the BC14 stock pump. So I went with a Rio 50 with flow valve. Much better and no temp spike!

The nozzle will be completely invisible once I add frags...

I'm starting to get some green on the rocks. Zeroes on ammonia/nitrite - nitrates are reading 20 ppm.

BUMP! :P

So, everyone at work is demanding that I put FISH into my FISHLESS pico. What part of FISHLESS don't they understand? Philistines! It hasn't even finished cycling yet.

Green stripe mushroom in my BC14 was never happy so I plopped it into the 3 gallon JBJ...

It's much happier in this torch free environment.

Thanks Asin and hisc1ay. Asin, what are you feeding the zoos in your 2.5?

New pics from my office pico.

Another green stripey shroom from my BC14. You can see the sting damage from the torch on the bottom of it.
