Kelpie
I know anemones are a lot of trouble sometimes but I really like different examples of symbiosis and I would love to have a pistol shrimp/golby pair, a false percula(or two)/anemone pair, and a pom pom crab together with the coral symbionts. I have read a lot about various anemone clown fish hosts and it seems most people lean toward bubble-tipped anemones. Do any of you WITH ANEMONE EXPERIENCE have any suggestions for me? Thanks, K Link to comment
shag26272
your best guaranteed bet would be to pick them up at the LFS as a pair, it might not be an option but my LFS has at least one anenome that is hosting an ocellaris, never asked the price though, supposedly, wild caught fish are more likely to host with an anenome Link to comment
RayWhisperer
Nems can be tough. If you think your up for it, a BTA is your best bet. They are quite forgiving as nems go. I have a pair of wild percs that host in my RBTA, though it's no guarantee ANY clown will host in any anemone. I do find wilds to be more likely to host though. As far as reef safe, they are, and they aren't. Anemones pack a punch, so if they wander, pretty much anything they contact is gonna get stung. Link to comment
Koral krazy (reefer 365)
Clowns can easily host in xenia, torch coral, and even some yumas. I have an RBTA, and it's probably the biggest pain I ever added to my tank. Needs a lot of water changes, feeding, and equipment. BTA's are the smallest hosting anemone available for nanos, and mine is already outgrowing my 24 gallon. It will soon be sold to the LFS. Link to comment
mattyice
any anemone will outgrow a nano thats a big problem with them, also all of the rod's Onyx i have seen host something in the tank they are in Link to comment
Clownfishcrazy1117
Get a frogspawn or a torch! Ditto. Torches are just as pretty and are much hardier. Link to comment
Nyxis
If your clowns are already hosting something forget about it. I gave mine a sebae to live in so they would leave my frogspawn alone and they wont even go near it. Stupid fish. Link to comment
Chupacabras
The first 'nem you should try (in a nano) is the BTA. They are pretty tough as far as hosting anemones go, readily accepted by most clowns and are good looking. If you can find one of the cloning anemones, they generally won't outgrow a nano, since they usually split before getting too big. It is believed there are two "types" of bubble tips, the splitting type that grows by cloning itself and the deep water type that grows by, well, getting bigger. It is usually a safe assumption to think a cloner will stay a manageable size and you'll be able to sell off the resultant new 'nems. As for "safe", it's as Ray says. Link to comment
PrettyEyesSCT
My two clowns host in my frog spawn and they absolutely love it! I couldn't go with an anemone because of size restraints, so I went with something else they might like... And they did! Link to comment
