algae? any ideas what this is?

I have a minature maroon moose antler looking thing that came out on a live rock I recently purchased. It is about 1 inch tall and has three main branches and each branch has little stubs on it. It has a velvety cover. I don't have a camera to take a picture, but that is the best I can describe it. Any ideas? Thanks

Don't know, but I've got one too. I think it's a sponge. (Assuming it's the same thing- description sounds exactly the same, though.) It's been in my tank for four months (since tank inception) and has done very little except grow slightly bigger, except once at the very beginning of my reefing experience, when I had an accident with a not-so-slow drip doser and dropped my salinity precipitously. On that occasion it shed a waxy skin.
