Hi folks

I'm in the Uk and have the chance of a 2nd hand 150w Viper at a good price, however I've heard not so good reports about reliability, unrelaible arm clamping mechanisms. What are you guys views of the product before I splash the cash - thanks

I'm in to UK too. I looked at the Viper in the early days of planing my custom tank. I desided against it due to reports of the arm clamps melting, poor colour of the light and reliability. I went for the Arcadia 150W 14,000K, 40cm, Series 3 pendant. It's a VERY nicely put together piece of kit and gives a great colour.

I have the Viper 70w on my 12 gal, only had it for couple of months now but seems to put out plenty of light for what i need. The only thing i dont like about it is the mounting part of it, doesnt seem to mount well on the 12gal NC. But it seems to be a pretty good light overall. Hope it holds up! :)

according to Nano Tuner's site , the company that makes the light have done improvements from '05 to '06 models. They suppose to have fixed all the problems with the old '05 model in the '06 series. The old '05 model is series 1 and new '06 model is series 2

this is what Nano tuners has on their site about the Viper lights:

THESE ARE THE NEW GENERATION OF K2 Vipers

Featuring:

JBJ K2 Viper Lamp series II

- Improved Reliability JBJ 14000K bulb

- Improved articulation on the Threaded head

- Female Remote Disconnect

- Wire Guard

JBJ took feedback from First Generation Viper owners and incorporated them into this latest release

Available with Factory JBJ 14000K, Aqua Medic 10000K or Aqua Medic 20000K
