tinyreef Posted December 1, 2006 Share Posted December 1, 2006 they look like sponges to me. the frilly section on the uptube is reminescent of a sponge i've seen. i'd have to check tyree's sponge book for the exact name though. they look like a mass of tubes winding in/out with littel chimmey uptubes with the frilly things on the sides, right? can't really see in the pic other than a couple of the tubes' details. not sure what the frillies do tho. harmless ime but they can become dominant on a rock covering it entirely like bubble algae would. not really one to grow on the lit sides of the rock though. could be a tunicate but i don't think so.
