United_Poseidon
Hello all, I have been trying to set up my tank to my satisfaction since I started it in May. Adding flow, adding rock, adding components and such in order to get my nitrates down and the hair algae problem, which has been going on for over two months, under control. Right now my system is as such. I have a 24DX that is shown in the attached diagram. I would like to add an external pump and run the pump down to a Fluval 304 filter through the chiller and back up into the tank. I would like to have all of the mechanical filtration (except for the skimmer of course) outside of the tank to get better water flow through the chambers as well as increase the water volume of the cube and take out one of the powerheads to alleviate some heat. In the Fluval I will have LR, (charcoal when needed) and some sort of phosphate sponge. I have decided on a PanWorld 50pxx pump rated at around 1100gph to power this inline system. I plan on controlling the flow with a ball valve. What do you think of this? Do you see a problem with hooking up a Fluval filter, which has a pump itself, inline with a chiller? Would running a faster pump into a far slower pump pose a back pressure problem? Please help me nano-reefers . Tank.bmp Link to comment

I tried running a faster pump in to a slower pump one time for a freshwater tank I was running. As I recall , I got horrific performance. I was told by someone that back pressure on an impeller can significantly hinder performance. We run a 304 at work on our sw office tank as well as an Arctica chiller. I'm not sure if they are wired in line or not. I'll take a look in the morning and post up. I'm trying to work on doing the same thing right now.....meaning applying normal/big tank equipment desigin to a nano tank. Hopefully, someone here with big tank system design experience can impart some thoughts. Out of curiosity, are you drilling the tank ? Link to comment
