I like how you have out of the ordinary corals in your tank.

Whats your lighting? (or did u mention it somewhere in this thread)

sorry cyclone, i missed ya there. its a 175 coralvue mh (14000k-cheap bulb$50 canadian)

i also have a 18" coral sun actinic bulb(standard fluresent)

i paid $28 for my last yashia. ($30 being the going rate in my area.)good job he was cheap, my lobster decapitated him. :(

even here in canada tiny gobies are an ask and you shall recieve kinda item. (in 2-4 weeks :) ) there such a tiny fish and are quickly lost in a display. for that reason alone, alot of lfs tend to order them in upon request. (no sence filling the displays with fish you dont see :) )

i know all the owners of the lfs here intown by thier first names. take the time to get to know your lfs and you'll be surprized what they can get.

my lfs has a local forum. they include stocking lists. (not whats in the store, but whats available at the distributors.) this is a fantastic idea. talk to your lfs and see what they can do. its been profitable for them.

Can you post or PM the address of that LFS forum?

I am in Cambridge, but head through London once in a while to visit my folks!

The tanks looks great. Can you elaborate on how your returns feed each of the tanks? Do you have two overflows from the reef?

lfs in london

incredable aquariums

(519) 471-8300 509 commissoners road

the owners name is bill. he's very knowledgable, but new to catering to nano's. he'll frag alot of his corals for you if you ask.

they have a local forum (very low traffic) kinda like a help desk.

this is the forum with the availability stocking lists, although they dont seem to be up at the present time. (just ask bill in person or online)

the store has excellent weekly specials. i bought all my tank raised horses for $28 each.last week green/red clown gobies were $6.88. this week firefish are $19.

if you sign up they will send you the weekly specials via email.

strictly salt-dougs the owner. 519 964 3474 wharencliff rd.

http://www.strictlysalt.ca/store/

the store was amazing at first, but its kinda hit and miss now. alot of good deals for sure, but the aquariums in the shop need some help. i have a feeling thing are changing for the better.

reef perfection 1116 dearness. its hard to find, its in the back of an automotive store (sterios, glass etc) (519)859-4424 owners name is alex.

http://www.reefperfection.com/

this is a new up and coming store. if you can get hold of alex (outta town alot) the store is definatly worth checking out. call ahead though.

and of course we have a big al's on wellington

519 668 2752 mark is the fish room manager. i believe shawns the owners son.

almost forgot. all the pluming info is in the thread. if you have any specific questions i'll be happy to answers (with pic's if needed :) )basicly my mag 9.5 runs 2 manifolds. the lower manifold has a tap/valve to allow me to control the flow in the bottom aquarium. this inturn also effects/controls the flow in the top of the aquarium.

Thanks for the info and links!

I was curious as to how you split the flow between the two tanks. It is all clear to me now after a re-read.

Thanks

just takes alittle practice and the right tools. :)

zatoichi? how did a blind swordsman wonder into my dream thread? :)

i'd love a quality cane sword for the collection.

instrance's avatar looks like the original zatoichi (not beat takeshi)

Supernip, I had no idea what you were talking about (never heard of zatoichi) so I just did some Googling. Based on the picture on this Wikipedia page, I would say you were correct.

ya want pic's do ya? well the aquarium lights are off and its not in the best of shape.

heres the kaos after the nanostream mishap its a temp fix. (the 2x4 are glued inplace, no risk of it falling into the aquarium.

i wasnt happy with my canopy anyway. the ns showering my light motivated me enough to get it done.

ya might have noticed in the pic above that i changed my manifold (the outlets are now horrisontal.) they were angled up before to try and even the presure. i ditched one outlet which has increased flow out of the others.

i did this cause i plan on ditching the canopy and adding a pendant. at eye level the plastic trim hides the manifold perfectly. i went to great lengths to hide all the plastic trim, so i plan on adding some wood trim to hide the plastic. just enough to do the job. if i can get large enough corner trim, i might also conceal the trim as seen from above the aquarium.

heres the start of my pentant. just used the chop saw to cut some 6" pine.

updates.

new additions- picked up an aligator pipe.

very cool critter. he's a hitcher and doenst swim much. just chills out. at night he wanders alittle.

i lost my female mandarin a few weeks back after 2+ years of having her. it was a very sad day to see the critters picking at her carcas. she was fat but stopped eating frozen food. she was infected with some form of parasite and went down hill fast.

anyway, this evening i introduced a very large fat female. the 2 mandies have been showing off all night. they seem to be getting along very well.

the large orange gorg also became a casualty. it developed a white fungus that desolved the gorg in a couple days. i tried medicating the gorg, tried fresh water dips and nothing seemed to help. whats really strange is this, i cut some fraggs a few days before i lost the gorg. i used a sterile scalple and the fungus didnt originate from the cuts (started from the base) however none of the frag's or other gorgs in the aquarium were effected. even the ones touching the infected gorg.

i'm actually surposed to send the frags to curtis (demented lullby) but i'm just waiting to make sure thier not gonna follow suit. i'd hate for a bag full of fungas to show up.

i'll post more pic's of the frags and horses when the lights come on.

got lots of new zoa's . the local frag swap proved to be very rewarding.

very cool new additons (especially that aligator pipe.. those are one of my favorite types of pipefish)

Is it possible that when the lights go back on that you post a recent FTS of the SH/pipe tank???

If its not to much of a bother

also sorry to hear about your manderin.. it sucks to loose something with such centamental value [sp?]

that was like my clownfish who was the first fish in my first reef tank who died over the summer while I was away :(

anyway good luck with those gorg frags.
