rickjg
...why did you add "Rick's NC6" to all of them? Copy right protection Thats beautiful. Happy birthday. Rick, how do you keep the back coralline free? Good question I have used B-Ionic in my other tanks, but I decided not to dose this tank. I am purposely running a low calcium setup to slow the growth of coralline algae on the back plastic, because I like the look of the black background better than a coralline covered background. I also want to slow the growth of the hard corals in my tank. I know it goes against conventional reef tank maintenance principles to run a low calcium setup, but nano-reefs don’t need the fast growth that large reef tanks can handle. -Rick Link to comment

Maybe Red Sea? Red Mushrooms Green star polyps Blue Rics Green Zoos Livestock List: (1) Skunk Clown – 4 years old (1) Blue leg hermit crab (2) Astrea snails Live rock: Fuji rock & Tonga rock Back Chamber Setup: Chamber 1 – 50 watt heater (set @ 80), live rock rubble Chamber 2 – small mesh bag with (1) spoon of Seachem PhosGuard & (4) spoons of carbon (changed when I do water changes, usually weekly ) Chamber 3 – (2) Rio 180 pumps, one outlet plumbed to the middle of the tank Saltwater: Natural seawater from Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA. Approx one gallon changed out every week or two. RO freshwater for evaporation makeup water (one gallon used every 6 months) No additives used. Water temps are 80 at night & max out at about 82/83 during the daylight hours. Test kits: None used Notes: I have no major problems to report (like broken glass). My LED fuge lights fried, so I gave up on my chamber 2 Chaeto fuge, for now. The mix of hard & soft corals has worked well and provides a lot of diversity. This tank was the 1st place winner (by default, the last tank standing) of the N-R.com Nano Cube Contest, see link below. NC6 -Rick Link to comment

rickjg
Thanks for all the positive comments & 1st B-day well wishers Nice tank it's looking really nice. I'm planning on putting a NC6 on my desk, do you know where I can get one of those file-holders you have under it? Sorry, I’ve never seen a stand like mine for sale, but it really saves on desk space. A cabinetmaker friend of mine made it, per my design, to raise the tank up to eye level while sitting & to fit the file folder holders. The stand is covered in black plastic laminate, so it’s really easy to cleanup and it resists scratching. It would be really easy to make a similar stand out of wood; it’s just a square box with an open front & bottom. You could paint it or stain & clear coat the wood. Pic of my cube a few months ago Cabinets also give you a place to hide all the “stuff” This is what is behind the file folder holders -Rick Link to comment
