Diary of the Stand

I needed another stand for my 10 gal (which will be rebuilt) So while at my parents I asked if I can use the scrap wood they have (small lumber yard). Final dimensions are H- 37" , W - 39", D- 19.5". So far the only expense will be to get some bullnose on two sides for corner tiles. Grout, granite tiles and black tiles are leftovers from parents use. This post is Day 1 (roughly 3 hours work) tools used - Makita Compound Miter Saw(http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/pro...ci_kw={keyword}) , a tape measure, and a table saw.

It all starts with a base... :

Day 2 ( 6 hours) Tools use - compound saw, tape measure, air nailer - with 2inch finish nails, clamps - quick grip and bar clamps, DeWalt wood planner

Now I thought what to skin this with... I thought, smooth plywood...but didn't want to mess with cutting it out and buying some. Then I spied some old barn wood. This came from a barn that was my great grandfathers... so to make something that was once his, is pretty awesome. Cut wood to size I needed and before anything, checked the quality and if there were any loose nails! A nail through the planner would result in me having to replace the blades...not cheap.

Did that like 20 times.

Planning this old wood took awhile... Also... EAR PROTECTION IS A MUST.

I can't stress enough on wearing eye and ear protection when working with power tools. I forgot my ear plugs today and had to plane out some boards for the door and it's like going to a concert and sitting next to the amps...planner is like a jet engine. Id also suggest some rubber gloves when staining... unless you like to scrub yourself down with mineral spirits...like me haha!

OK so I had a hard time getting corner pieces (bullnose on two edges). They had white... but not black... I might leave the corners white but I got some enamel to paint them black if I don't like it.

So far total cost is 40$
