I've got more to post after this.. just getting my thread caught up to where I am currently with the build:

I have a water spout on the exterior of the garage that I hired a plumber to t-off and add a new connection inside the garage. This was so I could have a nice home for the BRS RO/DI system.

This is the sump that the comes with the tank....

2011-07-25174721.jpg

I didn't want to waste the space in such a large stand:

So I got this:

2011-07-25172040.jpg

2011-07-25172241.jpg

Significantly longer and wider than the original sump

I was afraid I'd have fitment issues as I ordered the sump while the tank was shipping but it's a perfect fit!

I upgraded to this Precision Marine R30 sump because it has a nice refugium for some live rock rubble and chaeto. It will be nice to have a fuge plus some extra filtration on top of the skimmer. I'm going no HOB stuff with this tank (unlike my last one)...

Congrats to your new system.. very nice size! what are you planning for lighting and control systems?

Thanks d'Espresso.... how'd your package come to you?

I am going LED but right now set on Vertex. We'll see in the next week or so...

Here are some nice videos on the light:

Sunrise/sunset demo:

My favorite:

I also plan on getting a Genesis Reef System Storm and Renew plumbed through the wall from my living room and garage... Which is why I have moved the tank to this wall adjacent the garage:

This placement will also provide better views from a seated position.

Thanks for taking interest in my build... I will be building the rest of this tank kind of slow as I might have a major trip coming up in the next few months...

What protein skimmer do you have planned?

TheWAND -

At this point I don't plan on upgrading the Protein Skimmer that I have already.. it's an old Euro-Reef skimmer that should still work for this application. If it doesn't I'll look for another skimmer to suit my needs.

Equipment wise, I'm focusing on getting the light and 2 MP10's for a wave flow in my tank.

In the immediate future, I will need to do a leak test with some RO water... just waiting on a shipment I ordered from BRS... I've got 50ft. of RO/DI line included in that order.

Good equipment. Euro reef should work fine, and it's something you could always upgrade in the future. I have Vertex Illumina as well as AI Sol systems. Vertex Illumina sunrise/sunset is much nicer. The fixture altogether is much sleeker and the light design program on computer is convenient. Unfortunately the tank the Illumina is on has been neglected and I am only starting the process of rebuilding. You'll love the Illumina for sure though.

Which fixture did you get? I'm debating the 36" or the 48".... And once I choose the size.. figuring out if I should get the 200 or 260 model. I may be using the glass lid for this tank since I've had bad luck with my favorite fish... which I'm determined to keep in this tank: Blue Spotted Jawfish.

Ok.. final update until the Bulk Reef Supply shipment arrives:

After a long fight with glass cover plastic hinges... I finally have this:

2011-07-31185448.jpg

I know a lot of the rimless fans will think this is a horrid idea.... but I am going to use the removable frame top and glass lids... this will allow me to control evaporation (I have hardwoods in all living areas so this is a plus for me) and I want to guarantee no carpet surfers... or wood surfers... or whatever.

Here is how the plumbing looks so far...

I have the 260 in a 72" model over a 72" tank that is 32" deep. If I had to redo it I would have gotten the 60" fixture. The spread on these thing is incredible, but unless your tank is over 24" deep I don't think you will need the 260.

So just found out today at work that BRS is out of Pukani rock..... eh...

So I put in an order for Marco Rocks instead. Crossing fingers that they fill the order I requested...

Got some new stuff in!

2011-08-04162043.jpg

Still debating on weather to cook or not to cook the dry rock. It's a must for adding to an already established tank... not so much for a new one. Just a sample of the great rock I got from marco rocks.

Got a great deal on this Octopus 4" that I couldn't pass up, so I will be using instead of the larger older design Euro-Reef. Here is a size comparison.

In the sump.

I will be ordering the Vertex Illumina 36" 200 series LED light soon... and also the Genesis Reef System as well in the near future... stay tuned.
