First off :welcome: to NR. Awesome site isn't it. Couple of comments. The coraline algea on your live rock is awesome. Took me months to get that and you started with it. Next, if it's not too late, that LR ledge on the left side of the tank is aweful close to the side glass wall. May interfere with you algea cleaner/magnet or your hands with a coraline scraper. Other than that.....great start, nice choice on tank selection and keep us posted.

Thanks ddwbeagles! im finding the site very very useful learning something new every day!

I did notice that ledge on the LR, i can fit my pinky in between the rock and the glass, so i figured i would have enough room to clean it out with a scraper, i also did a few changes with the LR this morning, and also placed my order with InTank, so thank you stevieT for the new products coming my way! :)

Once i finish installing my RO/DI filter ill be throwing up some more pictures

You'll probably be fine. My magnet scraper is probably about .75" thick and thus I needed some extra clearance. That and I manually scrape the coraline build-up on the inside of the tank, so I need enough room to get either my hand, wrist or the scraper past any obstacle. Hope your luck is better than mine, as I find myself with my hand in the tank several times a week. Could be something as simple as a snail fell off something and is bottom up on the sand bed. I also use a turkey baster to blow off debri from every nook and cranny in the LR. Or repositioning frags. It's always something.........that causes me to be in there.

also gonna ask again, what do you think about slowly changing out to RO/DI or should i just do a full swap? and until the time i can install my RO/DI filter do you think ill be fine with just Tapwater for just now? Ill ne running a test here in about 10 mins, ill update my findings

Changing out to RO/DI water........ I wouldn't wait or at least let me say that when you start water changes, I would only use RO/DI water and probably double their size for the first several weeks. Tap water is known for carrying phosphates as well as other heavy metals and contaminates. Some people, depending on where they live are lucky enough to get away with it, but it's a risk I wouldn't take. If you have phosphates or silicates in your local water, you'll be fighting algea on a never ending/non stop bases.

Now this may sound like I'm talking out both sides of my mouth, but it's a highly debated topic. That being, should one do water changes while cycling. The majority opinion still sways to "no" as it delays the completion of the cycle, so to speak. You're going to have some sort of algea or diatom bloom during the cycle regardless, so don't necessarily equate that to tap water use. Long story short, IMHO I don't think you would do much harm regardless of which way you went. Worse case scenario if you switched to RO/DI water and did a huge water change, it just means you need to wait another week or so to insure the cycle has completed and the established bacteria is sufficent to handle your introduction of a bio load.

BTW - the rockscape is still looking sweet. The amount of coraline algea you got with your LR is impressive. I've always had to start with semi-cured (at best) LR that is completely absent of any coraline and packed with decaying organic matter. Takes me about two or three months before I introduce the first coral, althought part of the CUC get in there earlier. Also thanks for the update and photos. It's all eye-candy. Great job!

So got my RO/Di filter setup, and am using that as my top off right now, i also setup my old 10gal, as just a reservoir to store water and get it up to temperature

.

And i also having quite the outbreak of algea, i definitely know the cycle hasn't finished, right now I'm just letting them grow to the point where i can pull it off with my fingers.

also i swear i got the new scaping syndrome I've changed the rockwork like 10-12 times in the past couple of days but I'm really liking how it looks now!

Well made a run down to JL today to grab a testkit for the tank finally!!

while i was down there tho, made a discovery, and noticed they have Strawberry Tophat in stock, so i decided to grab one, i also mentioned that i have quite the algea problem on the sand, he mention i should snag a couple of Fighting Conchs? i decided to wait on those guys and to see how the tank does with the rest of the crew added, I also placed my order yesterday with EcoExotic.net.

EcoExotic Order:

2 - 453nm Blue Stunner LED's

2 - 403nm Ultraviolet Stunner LED's

1 - Power supply

Ill have these running for an hour before and after my tank lights come on to simulate dusk/dawn any thoughts?

And this is my updated CUC list:

7 - Cerith snails

8 - Margarita Snails

5 - Bumble Snails

4 - Astrea Snails

1 - Turbo Snail

1 - Strawberry Tophat Snail

1 - Red Scarlet Hermit Crab

7 - Blue Legged Hermit Crabs

as for the Fighting Conch's, does anyone have any info on these guys? or had any experience with them?

Im gonna wait for the LED's to come in, as some of the guys at JL wanted to take a look, and by that time i should know if i need the Conchs or not.

Cheers Oscar
