Possibly a sponge or a tunicate?

This black smooth object with one 'mouth' is right not being held as the prime suspect in irratating my zoas. Only the zoas with 2" of this have been affected. I have not seen any mucus coming from them, but have noticed for several weeks that the zoas first start to pinch and then slowly die off.

Any idea what this is?

bump..for the morning crew.

Anyone?

Well, I never got a response, but as soon as I moved this rock, all other zoas in that area pepped right back up. The rock which this was one lost all but 5 or 6 polyps all of which seem to be doing great after I trimmed off this 'intruder'. Has anyone every experienced any type of sponge/tunicate causing similar issues?

I haven't experienced this, but another guy is having problems with a sponge attacking his goniopora and killing it.

There's a fight for space in the ocean, and these things fight with chemicals as well as stingers -- I bet the sponge was putting out a nasty chemical to clear the way for its growth.
