Kat's Ol' Max

Well, the pictures of your Porcelains boxing compelled me to get one of my own. They're a little expensive around here, but he's been a worthwhile (if sedintary) addition. Thanks for that!

I'll never understand shoes though. I own 1 pair of sneakers, and a pair of boots. I'll replace them when I spring a leak, or the soles have worn off. My sister and brother in law share a passion for shoes...odd, odd hobby. Growing tiny expensive animals from places I'll never visit makes 10x as much sense.

Good hunting at that frag swap though!

So I'm headed out and to brunch with a non fishy buddy armed with the perfect accessory: a sexy cooler. Hey at least it matches my outfit. Ha. I'm hoping my buddy will be late (as usual) so I can be even more late going to the swap. You don't understand. If I'm not there I can't spend. You see this logic?. IT DOES NOT HELP THAT TANK SITTER SAYS I SHOULD GET A CUSTOM TANK. He's been watching tanked, bloody hell.

Zeph just texted me, says he can smell the clams (we ordered some ORA ultra gold maximas for him)

KG is on his way in too, he posted he's setting up camp with me, I should post that contrary to popular expectations by everybody at the swap, I am not wearing stilettos! Just 3 inch wedges....

I should come clean though, I've pre ordered and pre paid for a lot of stuffs..... omg

Updates later!

I showed you my goniopora and scratched your itch, leave my clam alone.

:haha:

You just made my day Kat.

I went late to the swap, I stayed barely a couple of hours. I successfully resisted Jason Fox. He was calling out my wallets name (PRADA PRADA PRADA ) and his baby girl gave me the cutest smile and I chit chatted with Mr. Fox, he's very sweet. YESSS! I am woman! I am strong. muhahahahah.

As for my purchases, 90% of which were pre-swap buys....

omgomgomg OMFG omgomgomg

Is it wrong to tear up when you see polyp extension?

Zeph was like a zombie, Dr Mac was getting coffee when Zeph walked in and we said hello to Dr MAc who immediately mentioned his clam tank. Zeph was like a zombie after that. He came home with like 5 clams?? What was it Zeph? From the post above you can see his Ultra Gold ORA Maximas were inspired by Bunny the hiphopus in disguise. Maybe now I can call off the watchcat....

Here's Ms. Jelly and Me:

oooh, I am jealous!!

Love the spotted spots. Beautiful pictures!

Thank you, I love both spotted mushrooms and the porcelains.

ftfy :flower:

btw, acans and favia FTW. Saw a 1.5" favia frag that had at least 3" sweepers and it was pissed the heck off at everything around it and was trying to sting it!

I need minimal nitrates for corals too?

I got a Blue/yellow favia at the swap making my collection into 4!

Sweet!! Have fun. Im going down to Age of Aquarium in Long Beach tomorrow, for a SCRK meeting/frag swap/bbq/excuse to drink!!

I had a bloody mary before the swap, wish I had had more.

You guys living in the city, frag swaps, large LFS, sheesh. Here in the sticks I can't even find a fellow reefer!

Oh well,

No traffic! :D

 I had to take a cab, I couldn't carry my cooler by the end of my 2 hours at the swap. It's all zephs fault, he brought my frags in 5 gallons of water. bagged. sheesh. I suppose I should thank him for saving me from spending too much. KG was no help in that department.

Wait... Was I the one who convinced you to get this tank? I remember talking to you about it and you said you got the tank... I think that was you.

Tank looks great nevertheless. Didn't think it had been that long... :o

Thanks Euphy, no it was actually KG that mentioned RSM's to me. I was looking for an AIO but did not know any brands other than Oceanic and JBJ.

I'm so excited! Can't wait!

I'm so sorry to have missed you. When I checked in, I saw your name hadn't yet been checked in, we'll see you at brunch soon.

Hey you. Porcelains are so cute. Yes and pretty calm, sedentary crabs, always in plain sight too.

So I was talking to Dr Mac while shopping his booth

Dr. Mac: "so what is it with you an shoes, you make shoes? you buys shoes? you sell shoes, you like shoes, what?"

looking good! good luck at the frag swap!

There was a vendor there called Pablo who was selling Metrokat Leopards. omgomgomg

I've made it. Now I need a plane with my name on it.

Enjoy the frag swap and pick me up something nice! :P

I did, oh did I evah....... :ninja:

 I know I was hoping somebody would make it a signature, it sounds pretty darn funny.

Zeph was like a zombie,

Maybe the fact that I hadn't slept in over 24 hours had something to do with that...but I did manage to leave with 4 nice clams. The 2 small gold maximas i posted, and 2 big maxis from Dr. Mac. IT was funny to me as the minute I walked in Kat introduced me to Dr. Mac and the first thing he said to me was "I have so many beautiful clams here". Like he knew me already. I was like OMG..he said the four letter word!! So after a little Wheeling and dealing me and a couple of other guys chewed the doc down and walked away with SEVEN BEAUTIES that we divide up between ourselves. I was done...i didnt even need to see the other vendors. Could have had a little more coffee though.

Sears had a store closing near by, so I went shoe shopping!

I replaced my one pair of worn boots with one pair of nice, new boots :P. Oh, and a denim jacket for kicks. They forgot to take the little ink cartridge off the sleeve though...

I know what you mean about Polyp Extension, my birdsnest makes me smile when it's a fuzzy stick.

Si, madame. Nitrate is a required component for the health of your system, as is phosphate (but in significantly lower quantities). Remove all nitrate from a tank and you will slowly kill everything in it. Keep nitrates around 10 or so, too much more can be bad, less is bad as well.

You'll see that folks like me that try and run an ULNS (ultra low nutrient system) that dose sugar/vodka/vinegar/etc also dose something like Aquavitro Fuel to restore a lot of the nutrients that are removed. My nitrate levels have been steady at 10ppm, phosphate undetectable when measured, with a ludicrous amount of feeding and dosing 3mL of Fuel twice a week. Minus this week, of course. Had a spike to 40ppm nitrate, I lost my Lamarck's angelfish at some point in the past week. sad face.

Which one is that?!?!?!!? Is that the one that's as big as your head, or is that a different one that's almost as big as my head?

It's amazing.

I'm glad you made it home ok - I thought you were going to topple over under the weight of your frag bag :P

I just barely finished getting all of my stuff acclimated. What a day. It was great seeing you and kgoldy and zeph.

(BTW - I like our colored toes, but my pants look really funny from that angle  )

Promise me you'll stay on my thread forevah? This is the stuff I need to learn.

Well I am skimmerless and stopped feeding due to phosphates. I was told I needed nitrates for better macros, and I guess better corals too. I have sea chem amino acids and I emailed Brighwell Aquatics about their product coral amino. If not these 2 products which claim not to add nitrates of phosphates, what could I dose to add a touch of nitrates in the system?

That mini colony is a pocillopora. It wasn't even for sale, I made the guy sell it to me.

I cropped that photo, wait I'll post another one.

So, wait, what all did you take home from the Swap? You mentioned everyone elses stuff but your own.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not calling your feet nice...not my bag.

I'll stay as long as you put up with me. :P

What do your nitrate and phosphate levels typically run? I wouldn't recommend doing any kind of dosing into a skimmerless system unless you're going to up your water changes by a hefty percentage. Dosing aminos and such into an already nutrient-rich system will only lead to an algae explosion unless your water changes can keep parameters at bay.

btw, they are saying that their products do not contain nitrate or phosphate directly, but they definitely break down into them and are processed by corals and macros into waste, which leads to them, as well. :)

I had that same pocillapora in frag size, but I mine bleached out and died :( My fault, I was not attentive enough at the time. It's so beautiful!

We need pics of all your bounty :D
