Psychosis
It sounds like it would bust right out of your pico lol. So really, you should send it to me. I'll act as the clam bank, which could be misconstrued in to at least 20 different clam jokes. I'm not that guy, but I wanted to make you aware of the possibility. I love the natural look of your tank still. I wish I could grow Macro to save my life. I had great success with Halimena, but Gracilliara and several others just loathe my existence and commited haru kari in protest. If I wanted to put a positive spin on it, I'd say I'd crushed the Rebellion and those stupid little Fluffy critters with out even firin' mah lazah. Quote Link to comment

Check for iron, macros like it. If you have chaeto it could be sucking up all the nutrients. Quote Link to comment

metrokat
An Apex for everyday keeps sleeplessness away My wallet screamed RKL, but my brain and some one on one conversations with Solefald convinced me that the Apex Jr was right for me and boy am I ever so glad to have listened to my brain for once! (Not that I ever listen to my wallet when it comes to this reef!) The hardest part is connecting to the controller via the internet (it was for me anyway). You have 2 options: an Ethernet from your router to the device or using a gaming adaptor or wireless router connected to the controller in bridge mode. Whatever that means in english. My brother who set up my home network was excited about the Apex too and he configured the web access part. He's been figuring out android connections for me (The app is no longer available). Anyway back to the Apex. Once you connect to the controller via the internet and find the IP address associated with it, you type that in to your browser and voila you are accessing the control panel. My first time using the Apex, I hard wired it to my router and programmed the heater and fan to maintain a certain range of temperature. Then I disconnected it from the router, and hooked it up it next to my tank with the heater and fan plugged in. That was it! It has been maintaining the range of temperature ever since. I got the controller 4 days ago. Now I can access it on my android, my iMac, the iPod touch and the iPad. Temperature control is not all I intend for this device to do for me, but it was the reason I got it. Very pleased with the purchase. Edited May 9, 2012 by metrokat Quote Link to comment
surgicalsense
I will still go RKL, but I feel it is more fitting for my tank and its basic requirements. Now I just need to purchase one Quote Link to comment
ZephNYC
I need an invisible fence too Someone just knocked on my door..i thought it was your clam. Zeph is foaming at the mouth for 'Bunny-o' the clam formerly known as Au. Holy smokes that clam is on the move! That's hilarious I will still go RKL, but I feel it is more fitting for my tank and its basic requirements. Now I just need to purchase one We change equipment all the time when we aren't perfectly happy so yes, get what you really want the first time. HAHAHA your clam capers are hilarious!!. It's a shame you can't find anyone who will take it off your hands... I like your new sig too btw Take it off my hands? I've got a cat guarding it from being stolen!! Thank you, the signature is a gift from Chipp Walters! In other news, imitation is a sincere form of flattery of course. I got this lovely idea from Siwelk but I'm pretty sure he did not pay $1.50 for each mat. Quote Link to comment

It sounds like a necessary precaution haha Any particular reason for the matting? I don't even have a shelf in mine all that room is hogged by my chiller. Quote Link to comment
metrokat
I'll be putting in a sump so just getting ready for that. The ATO is also going to go in there. The mats have a rubber backing and will hopefully provide a cushion against sounds from the pumps that will go in the sump and ATO. Quote Link to comment
Spirofucci
What else are you thinking of controlling with the Apex?? Can wait to see the sump design! Are you gonna do a diy? Quote Link to comment
metrokat
What else are you thinking of controlling with the Apex?? Can wait to see the sump design! Are you gonna do a diy? With the Apex I'll be controlling the filters and the powerhead so that I can have a feeding mode and not forget to turn them back on. Lights of course even though for now I have them on separate timers already. I got a quote for a custom acrylic sump for $150 which is a really really good deal obviously. But it is a lot higher than a $10 10G glass tank with some baffles from Home Depot so I'm deliberating again. I started a thread on the equipment forum asking for help with a blue print. I would have loved to find a tank that is more in keeping with the dimensions of the cabinet than a 10G, but then I wonder if having a little bit of room isn't such a bad idea. (BTW I made up my mind, going for the lifereef overflow after all, Jeff has been emailing with me substantially, I'm comfortable with his opinion. I also started a thread on another forum about CPR vs lifereef and that was very helpful) Quote Link to comment
metrokat
Oh, here's GEOWGE. He's very little and his skin is very thin so you see his tummy a lot. Not sure how to fix that, he is happy though as witnessed by his color. He still hides more than he is out and about. The clownfish are also on that side of the tank and sometimes chase him. Not sure how to get him to find another spot to live in on the other side of the tank or this rock that he likes. Since I've been stalking the tank for my wayward clam at night, I have caught sight of those evil aliens. Amphipods. They have been congregating in a group on the head of my feather duster and I'm pissed off. The duster is alive but clearly stressed, I've been feeding live phyto daily to keep it alive. Not sure why the amphipods are eating at the duster. Quote Link to comment
Spirofucci
I'll stay tuned on your sump decision. Your Midas looks like such a little guy, so cute! He just needs to grow up and grow some huevos, then he'll be fine and become your favorite fish! Quote Link to comment
Jstn
Why apex > RLK? I see this statement a lot but not much backing it. Quote Link to comment
metrokat
Why apex > RLK? I see this statement a lot but not much backing it. See post #1183 above. My research showed difficulty in programming the RKL and poor customer support. The Apex right out of the box came programmed for the basic functions every reefer will need, all I needed was to connect to it and adjust the range of temperature I want my tank at and what it should do to keep it in that range. I have not used the RKL to give an opinion on it of course, but Banshee's thread on RKL is what prompted my decision. Here it is. Quote Link to comment
jedimasterben
Why apex > RLK? I see this statement a lot but not much backing it. All depends on what features you want. All of them pretty much do the exact same thing, they just have different parts needed for each, and have different interfaces. Quote Link to comment

metrokat
that crab looks awesome! He is not quite nano is he. Very entertaining, fluffs mushrooms like they are pillows, hangs upside down in caves, walks around like a baboon with all arms out. But he scares me, I have run screaming from the tank when he's on a rock I've picked up. Quote Link to comment
