In an unexpected yet welcome turn of events, it looks like Jerry the crab likes his women like his coffee: Strong. After Lola ousted him from the BTA, he inched closer to her by the hour. I got my phone ready for video this time but it looks like a love fest to me. THEY PAIRED UP! Video is still uploading but here is a picture:

Let's talk about the Yuma from Hell.

Exhibit A: Pretty green Yuma

IMG_20120502_120811.jpg

My friend Zeph who has tanks that make me speechless has some corals I've been coveting. Just incase you were wondering what his tanks look like, here's the 210:

IMG_4421.JPG

Uh huh. Yeah. Anyway Zeph is more generous than is good for him and he doesn;t notice my beady greedy little eyes looking at everything and saying "my precious" under my breath all the time. I've been the recipient of some lovely baubles. Very shiny too. Like a nasuto, this yuma, red planet, superman monti. The Yuma was a maybe. Mushrooms don't like me very much so I was hesitant on taking one. I finally convinced him to give me like a baby Yuma to see how it would do in my tank.

Sunday after brunch it was frag take home time and I was excited at taking home my order from salt critters, live aquaria, drs foster and smith and the frags Zeph had prepared for me. He tells me casually over eggs and sausage that the easiest yuma to frag from his cascading mountain was this nice green small one that was attached to a bubble algae. I didn't think anything of it, I can snip that off easily enough.

Nah uh. THIS bubble algae was the size of an effin silver dollar. wide and tall. I'm talking a mofo sized piece with this cute yuma sitting all fluffy on top of it. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! That cruel man! I gave him the evil eye as best as I could while he's convincing me it's harmless. All I wanted was a little yuma, not a high maintenance effin time bomb yuma! JEEZE LOUISE!

So I took the thing home and looked at it from every angle. I said I'm going to throw it away and tell him it died. His brilliant idea was to pop it before putting it in the tank. I ended up using a new blade to carefully fillet the yuma off the bubble algae 'plug'. Put the poor yuma in a little bit of tank water with lugols for a bit then i glued it to a piece of rubble laying around and carefully laid it in my pico which has very gentle flow.

And that is how the yuma from hell ended up in my tank. Thanks Zeph.

I trimmed off all the xenia that was spreading like the plague in my tank... some of it is on rocks n plugs... most went in the trash. If you want some, you better plan on getting to LI soon, cuz looking at it makes me wanna burn it with fire.

Well they aren't shoaling either.

Lol no the point is that shoaling fish only loosely stay together in the wild because multiple pairs of eyes are better than one. But in nano tanks staying loosely together means opposite sides of the tanks. They don't like being too close to each other-too much competition for resources.

Mark, I said Sunday brunch, not saturday pajama party.

You could have just given the Yuma to me!

I can just see how that would go on your thread: "Kat gives me a high maintenance Yuma"

Sure thing, send me the pictures and description and I'll post em up for ya.

 A girl that knows her worth is a girl to be weighed in gold.

Can I get an AMEN!

Okay, I know I've been out of the loop for a while - which in MetroKat time, is like dog years, so I've missed a lot.

How did you hook your RODI up to your sink, ie. did you use a faucet to hose adapter? Any pressure issues? Which APEX are you getting? And for goodness sake, stop teasing! What's in the mystery box?

Your tank is looking fabulous - and I'm so glad the move went well. I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to deal with the summer heat. Chiller? Controller, ATO and Fans? A/C? At least one of these options involves a serious move from one room to another, so I'll be borrowing your TS if that's OK with you. (How much do you charge to rent him out?)

If you decide to re-home any of those blue or purple shrooms - please let me know. I'm a whiz with the bloody mary bribe ;)

I make a mean breakfast... next time you're in Atlanta....

Local reefers are amaaaazing. In Atlanta, nanos are not popular. So I'll find people tearing down their big tank and towards the end they'll just give stuff away for free. What is minuscule to them is perfect for me. It's great.

Wait, you didnt put glue on the actual flesh did you? thats a no no.

Yeah, I was wondering why you did that. I've never glued a ric down... just sat it in the sand. And if I needed to secure it, wait till it grabs a hold of some small rubble and then glue that.

Why do you have such bad luck with shrooms? What did they ever do to you?

Good morning reefers, todays agenda is a quick but necessary trip to Ikea and Petco and hurry back to wait for my BOX OF CORALS! :ninja:

In Metrokat time it is cat years Miss Jelly. lol. I'm counting down to your 2 weeks being done for lunch, brunch, drinks, dinner, spa, MA, whatever.

RO/DI: I used a faucet adapter yes, I unscrewed the faucet nozzle which holds the little filter thing and took it with the black hose from the spectrapure to home depot for the right adapter. Then it turned out that I needed a new faucet as mine was very old. The new faucet with the adapter fits great but there is a drop or two leaking due to pressure. I just run the faucet slower, take my computer and my little ikea stool and wait it out. Takes about n hour for a 5G bucket. If I leave then I will have a flood for sure.

I'm getting the Apex Jr with Temp probe, it is 10% off for the swap if you want to get in on the deal with Gotham Aquatics before May 15th. I'll get an EB8 later when my needs for the controller get more sophisticated. There was also a really good deal on a chiller that expired May 1 but if you're interested it's reefgeek, tell them Kat sent you.

TS rents out for home made lunch and his kids can play with the dog. :)

Will keep you in mind for the mushies.

Why Scooby! Breakfast eh? :P

I'm not sure what the deal with mushrooms is. The regular ones seem to be fine, this is my first Yuma and traumatized already so not sure I can judge what will happen to it. I know I just can't keep riccordeas happy. The one from salt critters ran away from its plug last night and is sitting in a little condiment container.

So my porcelain crabs are being complete a-holes to my sebae anemone. That, combined with my peppermint shrimpies being a-holes, as well (one came the other day out of nowhere and stole a fish out of the nem's mouth :o ), so they need to find a new anemone for a while, but I can't seem to catch them to throw them into the BTA or, well, anywhere.

porcelain crabs are very easy to catch IMO, they jsut stay put and you reach in and grab the little white guys.

you can try a turkey baster and gently blow them in the direction you want them to go. honestly they are easy to catch.

Mine run around like a chicken with its head cut off if I so much as reach in their general direction. They always come back to the sebae anemone, always.
