bulldogpet
Easy remedy for that is order the 60 degree optics. Thats what I did. I have my bulbs about 2 inches apart and once I changed out the optics problem was solved. The only thing is you can only use them on the 4-1w bulbs just send HK an email and ask for the 60 optics. I got them for 1 dollar each shipped. Quote Link to comment
nickjqz
Finished up mine this weekend. 4 blues and 3 whites over 10 gal. 3 more on order 2 white and 1 blue. Zy Wow! That is quite the hood. It is almost as big as your tank! Quote Link to comment
DIstudio
hey Tiny, wanted to say thanks for the heads up on these bulbs, my corals are loving them. I'm going to be ordering more for my new build, the 40B but was curious what you would recommend as a total count? I'd prefer the 2:1 ratio on the blue to white, using the 4x1w from HK_LED. thoughts? TinyGiant
i would say do 36 total since you have a bigger floor space for the 40b .. do like 18 bulbs across in two rows staggered or start with 20 and see how you like it. i would say 36 would be the best maybe a little less since they are 4w Quote Link to comment
Bobba
I am thinking about adding a few blues to even out my diy par30 lights over a 12gal long . Does HK sell any with the 60 degree optics already assembled? I read here that only the 4 -1w blues can use the 60 degree optics, is that true? I am not really looking for brightness, just something to even out the coverage between the par30's. Maybe even the 3-1w with the optics removed might be an option. Suggestions? Quote Link to comment
bulldogpet
I know he sells them in lots of 15 with 60 degree optics Here the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/15xGU10-85-265V-Wh...=item2566c18ed0 Quote Link to comment
Bobba
I am just looking to fill in the somewhat shaded areas between the par30's and on the ends. Maybe 5 bulbs if only using the blues. I get the ideal color (for me) by partially covering one of the white leds on the par30's but I am losing a little overall light by doing that. I am hoping that by adding the blue gu10's I can uncover the white par30 leds and have the same blueish color with a little more overall light. Quote Link to comment
Bobba
Lousy photo but maybe it gives an idea what I am working with. Quote Link to comment
Neya
I've unfortunately had to open an ebay case and then escalate it as I only have 3 or 4 days before I can no longer request assistance from ebay/paypal. Every correspondence with the seller is "please friend wait a few more days". The seller was good, and got it in the mail fast etc... it's just the package is most def lost and he's either delaying hoping it will be found or resolution date passes. Quote Link to comment
whiteheadfamily2415
Neya, what seller did you buy from? Quote Link to comment

sbeanz
I'm very close to ordering some of the lights for both my pico set up and 35 hex. I'm a little confuse on the ratio and amts of bulbs to get. I would think a higher ratio of the whites to blues would be better suites for the coral growth but from wht I've read it seems like most set ups have a higher ratio of blues to whites. Is that for the benefit of the corals or just an aesthetically pleasing thing? And if anyone has any suggestions on bulb counts for those set ups? Quote Link to comment

NURSE33.4
I may possibly have 12 bulbs (6 white, 6 blue), 30 sockets, and a bunch of good connectors for sale. Send me a PM if you're interested! Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
finished and installed the GU10 hood i built Pics just show the blues on. didnt have a outlet with 2 plugs free to show before installed it Quote Link to comment
wildmanzeke
TIny, First. That hood is awesome. I was thinking about doing something simular to that but was going to make the lights movable... well not movable but there is some kind of lighting socket here in korea that lets you angle the light. It stays flush with the bottom of the fixture. I didn't have time to do it. But this is awesome. Secondly. What optics do you have on these lights and aprox how high is this fixture above the tank in these pics? Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
i would say its about 12-14" inches from the top (didnt measure that) the optics are the 30* optics. its what i've used on all the ones i order. Quote Link to comment
sugarbyte
Please excuse my lack of electric diy knowledge but would this type of cable be suitable to wire the sockets to? Or did you use something different? Also, if this is the cable, is there a limit to how many lights you could wire per cable? I don't want to burn my house down Thanks Quote Link to comment
bulldogpet
That cord will work fine. As far as limits unless you are hooking 50+ bulbs to it you should be ok Quote Link to comment

Thanks so much for the quick reply I really appreciate it. I'm currently in the starting stages of planning my first sw tank (22 gallon). I definitely think this is the best lighting option Thank you Tiny Giant for telling us about these, your concept has inspired me to upgrade my current tank lighting! Quote Link to comment
