Love your tank. Esp that rock formation to the left near the wall with the hideout holes. Absolutely great for those little guys that hide out. :)

Thanks.

Those are barnacles from Reef Cleaners. Blennies and Gobies absolutely love them.

So... I had been contemplating a DIY fixture that would have lit my whole neighborhood, as you can see from my notes above. But then... This happened.

I am bummed you blanked all your personal information. Very bummed.

Just trying to protect the UPS guy. Don't want any reefers assaulting him on his way to my doorstep.

Trapping fish... takes patience. I am very tempted to go sharpen some chop sticks and murder the YWG that keeps eluding my traps. I even broke out some size 12 fishing hooks to try to snag the little bastard. Bah!!

One lonely watchman... Sitting in a molly breeder. The other, somewhere in the rocks. He better get his butt in a trap before the Live Aquaria shipment comes in... Or else I'm going spear fishing.

It took me three days, and a combined 15 hours between them- to catch the two bastard YWG who were terrorizing my tank.

Sunday- I set two plastic bottle traps and got them in the tank before my tank's "sunrise". Both baited with garlic soaked Cyclopeeze and PE Mysis. Over the course of three hours I watched every single fish in the tank go into the traps, eat, hang out, dance around in the plethora of food (goofy algae blenny), and do all that multiple times... Oh, except the bastard YWGs that I actually wanted to catch.

After three hours of mind numbing staring at the little butthole fish, with rage boiling, I eventually took a drive out to the local fishing shop. Picked up some size 12 hooks and 6 pound test line, the smallest that I could find.

I tied the hooks with my trusty quick knot (slightly modified since the eye of the hook is too small for a double loop)... A good knot is important

Loop through the eye, then twist three times.

Thread the end of the line through the loop you just created by the eye of the hook, then back through the second loop that you just created. (Note- when working with such small hooks, tying knots is much easier if you hook the skin of your fingers to hold it still. I advise using two hands to tie the knot. Having a camera in your primary hand (my right) and tying with your other hand (my seriously uncoordinated left hand) while attempting to take macro shots... Not so easy).

Apply spit to lubricate the line, and gently pull the knot tight.

Crimp down the barb on your hook so that it's easily removable from your fish's mouth. This way it'll just make a little piercing instead of ripping a hole in the fish's face.

Then cut the excess with about 1/4" left. Sometime the knot slips a little, this prevents you from losing your hook along with the catch.

Then use the smallest piece of bait you can- just enough to cover the point of the hook.

To be continued....
