kgoldy
Tangaroa goby was DOA... They sent the wrong shrimp with the diver's den pair... Or, more likely, they just never looked that close. It's a Tiger Pistol Shrimp. / Link to comment
animalmaster6
Goldy- This is my experiance with LA. LA's actual website service is awful. I had no good experiance with them. DD is really, really awesome. I've never ordered from them but there hasn't be one review i've ever read that's bad. That's just my opinion. I do know that LA is run different from DD. DD is run by Kevin Kohen. Link to comment

DD is run by Kevin Kohen. LA stuff all came triple bagged... As if it matters, when they're all crimped closed by the same metal wire. All the bags were leaking (but none so much it was terrible. DD stuff came with each thing bagged 12 times. Literally. 6 up, 6 down. So many bags I couldn't see what was in them because there were so many layers. E-mailed LA about a refund for the DOA, and have to send them a pic of the Tiger Pistol to prove that DD messed up. Not sure what they'll do for me there... But the "yellow striped goby" looks like it's in terrible condition. Gotta email them about that today too. Link to comment

The Goby was out sifting yesterday all day Now He is hiding in th back. Was nice meeting you yesterday. Nice meeting you too, Kim! Everything else from the order seems to be happy and healthy- with the exception of the Yellow Lined Watchman. They're all eating... Yellow Lined is hanging out in the open for the last 24 hours... Which is extremely unusual for a shrimp goby (am I right, AM?) Gotta love those tailspots... Wish I got two! Link to comment
kgoldy
I'll do a huge photo dump later... But check this out for now. I'm not promising anything exciting. Link to comment
kgoldy
Paco, the midas blenny went carpet surfing today. How he went without being consumed by one of my two dogs or three cats... kind of baffles me. To be honest, I'm not that sad. He's been a territorial @sshole and has been stressing everyone out lately. Goodbye Paco, you sure were a dummy. Link to comment
bitts
Sad for the fish. but. Like you said, Eeh. hows the blue spot. of the two the blue is the one I would have expected to be the surfer, Link to comment
kgoldy
Blue spot is good. He's been wrestling daily with a turbo snail who for some reason loves blocking his home. It's hilarious... if you could ever perceive a fish as angry- it would be my blue spot when the snail comes onto the barnacles. Link to comment

kgoldy
So a lot has gone on since the last update... Most of it, bad. I got those maxi-minis, and gradually lost every single one. The pH was a bit on the low side in the tank, but it shouldn't have killed off the maxi's like that. My guess is that they were too stressed during shipping, and never recovered. Really sucks, they were beautiful... After losing them I almost felt like breaking down the tank. BSJ also managed to somehow jump through an egg-crate top that I put in to shade the maxi's, since the seller said maybe the lighting was too powerful. Other updates- Made a giant HOB style fuge, did away with the light hanger, and made legs for the Mu fixtures. See links in the sigs for details so I don't get redundant. Here's some random pics taken since the last update- Link to comment

kgoldy
God you have some PURPLE rocks! Tank looks good...sorry to hear about the losses. Thanks! Isn't it nuts that this was all dry rock a few months ago? Forgot to mention that I removed all the LR that I seeded the tank with and put it back in my BioCube. BC is for sale btw.... Soopa1
God you have some PURPLE rocks! Tank looks good...sorry to hear about the losses. Is the MU fixtures. My dry rock I had look almost exactly like the established rock I had in there. Link to comment
kgoldy
Is the MU fixtures. My dry rock I had look almost exactly like the established rock I had in there. I agree, it's probably the Mu. My buddy who got me into reefing freaked when he saw how fast the coraline grew... I haven't seen anyone else have coraline grow this fast anywhere online. Instead of "Purple-Up" people should be getting a few violet LEDs to add onto their day fixtures. Link to comment
kgoldy
Hooked up two 5 inch computer fans inside my cabinet- one blowing air inside from a hole in the back of the cabinet, the second is blowing across the lights I have over the in-cabinet-fuge. Also installed my big HOB style fuge. Temperature of the system water almost immediately dropped from 81 to 79 because of the air circulation and increased surface area, and has been rock solid since. I've noticed my ATO is running a bit more often already. System volume increased by 16 gallons of water with the HOB fuge. Got a ton of frags from Mr. Coral's $10 section in today. Only 3 DOAs, including one Acropora crab. Poor cute little guy... Everything is currently in the HOB fuge, since Foster and Smith lost my mud and sand in the mail somehow... After a night in the fuge back there, I'll put the black eggcrate tops back on the display, and start acclimating the coral to the lights. pH has looked much better since I started using Kalkwasser for my ATO. Alk running a bit high (13 dkh), calcium about 450. Magnesium has been at a decent level too. Photo time- Mr Coral order- Tiny frags, get tiny bags (doubled up). Clusters of tiny bags are then double bagged in larger ones. Somehow all the newspaper was soaked in the box, but all the bags looked full to me. RIP cute little crabby... Frags that came lose from plugs. Coral Rx bath- Duncan even started opening up in the dip. (Free LPS I got with order) Some frags would have been disappointing if I had high expectations. I will however say that if 75% of this stuff survives the next few weeks, I'll never be buying coral for this tank again. Quantity makes up for quality- ...Nah, actually, most of the frags are pretty sweet, def worth the $6.63 I paid for each one with the sale was going on two weeks ago. Apparently I got a $300 mushroom... Haha. Link to comment

kgoldy
No more carbon reactors. Too much of a pain in the butt with the extra tubing. Charcoal in a filter bag from now on... One here, one in the bubble trap after the skimmer. Link to comment
