Added the ATO reservoir top...

Did some additional plumbing to spread the flow into the fuge over like two thirds of it... Creates lots of bubbles and random flow, it's a neat effect.

Decided I would stop searching for "the perfect hinges" to hang the cabinet door, and just use industrial strength- low profile velcro instead. It'll be a little more ghetto rigged, but a lot more practical to remove the door entirely instead of having it hanging while I do maintenance. It'll be a much cleaner look without any distracting hinges or drawer handles.

GHA is getting ridiculous. I'm probably going to have to rent a sea hare and just throw the foam covers on the MP-40's for a while...

Pics, in no particular order-

Wow-zers, that GHA came on hard... It looks like the right side of the display is covered in detritus. Is that just an effect of room lighting?

Well, it looks to me like it's some sort of film algae- maybe with some spots of cyano. The left side of the tank has a bit too much flow, so the sand gets stirred up, that's why it looks so clean. Still kinda working on that.

Did a late night rock move... Took the big one out of the fuge (didn't plan on keeping it there) and put it near the right/middle right on top. I think this will be my mangrove island. May be too close to the light though... Pics tomorrow.

GHA was kind of funny at first... But it doubled in mass today. I'm getting a sea hare right now. Can't wait for the CUC.

Here's what made me just run out to the store and buy a big freakin pig to put in the tank-

IMG_0758.jpg

The GHA on the right side of the tank is 4 inches, maybe longer. Totally doubled in mass today alone.

Here's my big giant pig. His name shall be... "Hugh Heffer".

IMG_0764.jpg

That's an American Quarter for size reference... He's bigger when he's not stressed out.

IMG_0765.jpg

IMG_0766.jpg

IMG_0769.jpg

IMG_0771.jpg

He's in the tank... Hard to spot...

IMG_0775.jpg

IMG_0776.jpg

Happy little fishies. Actually, the black and white striped guy is getting picked on quite a bit. He's got some torn fins. Poor little guy. :(

IMG_0777.jpg

Heffer is pretty much THE MAN. Well... Actually... THE WOMANMAN cuz he/she is a hermaphrodite.

IMG_0778.jpg

Low profile heavy duty velcro now holds in the door to the cabinet.

IMG_0779.jpg

Taadaaah!!

IMG_0780.jpg

IMG_0781.jpg

This is what it looks like without the flash... B)

IMG_0782.jpg

View from kitchen...

IMG_0783.jpg

Heffer kickin butt....

IMG_0784.jpg

Worm trails and gas bubbles. First evidence of a truly live bed. And look at all those pods on the glass! (Oh yeah, did I mention my GARF Grunge got lost in the mail?)

Back to the Heff.

IMG_0790.jpg

Completed my flow control in the fuge...

IMG_0791.jpg

And, that's it! Good day, folks.

Also I feel it's important to mention that I turned off my MP-40's since there's now a big soft bodied slug in the tank that could totally get shredded by those things...

Oddly enough- it looks like there's plenty of flow without the vortechs running. Good $800 I spent there... <_<

Ordered from Foster & Smith-

Medium Mag-Float

Oceanic Salt (200 gallon mix)

Coral frag racks- clear, corner, and clear, straight

Reef Gently AccliMate Pro

Kent Marine Purple Tech 17.4 oz (accident, I meant to remove it from my bin... )

AquaStik Red 4 oz

Stainless Steel Handle Nets 5" x 4" Net w/24" Handle

And got a coral beauty from the LFS... about 2 inches long, maybe less.

Water parameters-

pH 7.8

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 5

Phosphate 0

Lights in the display have been off all day. Keeping an eye on pH since it's dropping, because the GHA will be respiring and throwing things off....

Also got a second sea hare because I've got so much interest in the "pass the hare" idea on manhattanreefs. They're freakin chowin down on that GHA. Not doing manual removal, I'm letting them handle it. Hopefully by Wednesday when my ReefCleaners package comes, they'll have knocked down enough of the GHA that the new macros will flourish since more nutrients will be available.

Yes, they most certainly can. :D

I'm growing attached to my sea hares. I'm almost tempted to blast my tank with a 12 hour light cycle just to keep them fed. Haha

P.S. Got my CUC from Reef Cleaners a day earlier than expected. Long story short, I ordered 25 florida ceriths, and John sent me 167. Not exaggerating. I counted every snail that went into the tank.

This is kind of a triple post... But it's relevant here too. -_-

What I ordered............What I got

80 Dwarf Ceriths.........352 Dwarf Ceriths

25 Florida Ceriths........167 Florisa Ceriths

20 Dwarf Planaxis........77 Dwarf Planaxis

0 Turbo Snails..............3 Turbo Snails

Freakin wow, that is a whole lot of CUC right there.

There was some stuff that needed to be refunded because it wasn't in stock (manatee grass and pencil cap). I'm also short red gracilaria and 10 of my 20 mangroves... Which sucks... But I'm sure John will straighten things out. I really want to get a lot of mangroves growing in this tank.

 ....lightbulb....

Just a random thought...

Maybe I should hook up the feed line on my ATO to a mister, so that the leaves of the mangroves get rinsed automatically a few times a day... Hmmm...

Or maybe having it on it's own pump and timer would be better so there isn't a delay in the water making it to the ATO sensor.. Either way, I can feed right out of my fresh water reservoir instead of having to do it manually every day.

Bah, girlfriend has been demanding a lot of attention... I uploaded pics, I'll share when I get a few minutes to organize and narrate them.

For now, I got some new watchman gobies. Posted on the ID thread since I'm not sure exactly what species they are. Look like same genus as YWG. Below is the copy/paste from the ID thread...

They look just like YWG, but they're kind of white/grey/blue-ish. I haven't put them under normal white light yet, so I'm not sure how much the color is thrown off by 14k MH at the store and my Mu fixtures at home.

These are the best shots I could get for now... Photos were taken under my Mu. Girlfriend is dragging me out of the house....

Also- Please make suggestions on what pistol I should pair them with! Anything but candy stripe (randall's) pistol. They're staying in the molly breeder until I get a pistol, hopefully that won't be long...

Does your ATO use any sort of a fail safe timer? I would assume a mist would take a hell of a long time to actually top off the tank. The timer might trip every time.

That might be better.

I'm trying to decide what would be my best option for a single jawfish in my 90. Mainly, if the difference in price of the spotted (like $60-$100) is really worth it. The following are on Live Aquaria, I'm posting just as a reference on price and appearance (I'll probably buy local)- but I'm open to other suggestions. The fact that they label the blue-spot as "semi-aggressive" makes me think twice about it...

I'm going to build a jawfish home in the barnacle cluster in the center of my display (90 gallons) so hopefully whatever I get will utilize it.

p-71432-Opistognathus-auri.jpg

Jawfish, Yellowhead (Opistognathus aurifrons) $ 26.99

p-86343-jawfish.jpg

Jawfish, Blue Dot (Opistognathus rosenblatti) $ 109.99

p-71185-black-cap-jawfish.jpg

Jawfish, Black Cap (Opistognathus randalli) $ 24.99
