evilc66
Interesting setup. Make sure you add more pics (or a thread) once you get the new tank running. FYI, we are at 59 documented LED builds. Good job everyone. I want to be well over 100 by this time next year. Quote Link to comment

redfishsc
Alright, lemme enter my ghetto setup 8 Royal Blue XRE, 1 Meanwell ELN 60-48D, dimmed using a 9v power adapter and a 10K pot. Turned the SRV2 up a bit to get more amperage through the LED's using the slightly undersized 9v power supply. First, the heatsink is actually 2 12" long heatsinks scobbled together. These were "discounted" cut-offs from www.heatsinkusa.com. Just call them, they are good people to deal with. But that's why there's bolts in it. Second, I forgot to blow the shop dust off of it, so it looks like it has a ton of salt creep already on it. Notice there IS a splash guard under it but it's hard to see in the pics. Fixture in place in my canopy, in front of my Nova 4X24., I need to tape the wires to the suspension cable to keep them in place. LED's plus T5: Overexposed pic of the LED's only. They look TOTALLY different in person. Crappy quality video of LED's only http://s347.photobucket.com/albums/p460/re...nt=DSCN3086.flv Quote Link to comment
evilc66
Thanks for adding. Don't worry. Everyone has a hard time shooting with LEDs. Quote Link to comment
npain316
Here is a link to my build from over a year ago. Better late than never I guess. Here is a FTS, but the tank is much different now. The most important thing is the light is still as sweet as it was when I finished it. The only difference is I ditched the BPs and am now running a meanwell. Edited December 17, 2009 by npain316 Quote Link to comment
vresor
It was a long weekend and I hit some snags despite what felt like a lot of research and planning, but my LED retro BC14 has the lights back on. I'm especially proud of my heatsink mounting using nylon spacers and the original lugs that held the PCs and reflector in place on the underside of the lid. Virtually everything else is that same as many others here. The complete write-up is here in the Members Aquariums section. Quote Link to comment
arioch
http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=221657 My LED fixture, with custom acrylic, 5/5 CW/RB CREEs, and dimmer knobs. I worked on this with a friend, and we're very nearly ready to put on the finishing touch, which is pasting up a heatsinkUSA heatsink and adding an acrylic lid with a mounted fan assembly. I'll post more details and more pics in the actual thread in the near future. Quote Link to comment
nowlan
My LED build for 3' 30 Gal. (sorry about mobile phone pics) 12x Cree XPG White 12x Cree XPE Royal Blue 2x Meanwell ELN-60-48P (100% duty via 9v battery) 2x Heatsinks (Jaycar) 2x Thermal Pad sheets (cut 4x4 pieces) ================================================ FTS Wiring - note speaker cable to power supply is looped through hole for mechanical strain relief. - LEDs stuck down on thermal pads (drill metal before this stage, else shavings stick to pads) - Solid Core wire was biatch to bend, switched to stranded for 2nd heatsink. (blue vs purple wire) From Above - Heatsinks underated. They get too hot 50c+ with 24x 3watt heat. (Only running white OR blue now.) - Needs fans to be wired on. - Resting on glass sheet, raised on wooden clothes pegs and rubber feet. (keeps heat away from glass) I have since switched to Meanwell LPC35-700 700ma same light, heatsink runs cooler. BUT drivers run HOT, 50% size, yet 2/3 power Now on 24hr timer, while waiting for PWM board to be finished. Quote Link to comment
supernip
well Ive been working on my led fixture for the last few months. Anyways, here are some comparison shots of it next to a 150w 12k reeflux. The fixture is 18 leds (8white, 10 blue). Sorry about the poor photo quality, it isn't that grainy or blue in person. Cell phone pictures. You might not be able to tell but the halide's light is in the shadow of the LED, where the light drops off dramatically. Quote Link to comment
supernip
sorry forgot to say, optics are 60 degrees Quote Link to comment
sammy113
How could you not post thread link Nips? I'd like to see that sexay light with lights off. Very impressive comparison to MH Quote Link to comment
