Well guess what? I was able to find time and finish my canopy. I still need to build a reflector but the fans are in. I don't think the fans are powerful enough so I'm going to be purchasing new ones. The ones I have now are 80mm and 14db. Super quiet but only push like 32 cfm. I took some pics along the way but the camera died in the middle.

Hey, Jon!

Looks like you had your hands full this weekend with that project. Can't wait to see the results... :)

For coralline algae to spread or appear faster get a really purple rock and put it in an area of high flow and it will seed to your other rocks, back wall, koralia etc... if done right in a week or two or three lol you would see many speckles of coralline that will eventually become bigger spots given that the calcium levels and are up to par and whatever else promotes the growth.

He is totally right, you saw my tank. Right now, even my Astrea snails shells are purple. They just look COOL! B)

Well looks like I'm out to get a piece of coralline covered live rock.

I got my skimmer in today I'll have pics up in the next hour or so.

Haha thanks for keeping me on my toes. I have a piece of rock at my work but I am waiting for the tangs to finish eating the algae off of it. I will be bringing it home on Friday. I also need to get skimmer pics up but I can't seem to find the right water level. I have also started to dose 1-2 mL of purple up in hopes to bring up some coralline algae.

Currently I have 4 layers of window screening on my tank. I took 2 off yesterday when I did a water change. Trying to acclimate the corals still.

I'm gonna have to take the bubble coral back to my work. It's not lookin so good.

Thank you for the people following along. I need motivation!

Jon

I also havn't seen my diamond goby for about 5 days so I think he died on me. :(

Dude I think the MH are too powerful for it. I'm kinda not liking the new lights now. I don't know what to do. I might just get new bulbs for the original canopy.

My fans have started to make noise because of salt deposits and the GSP are all closed up.

I will probably put the old hood on tomorrow if I get new lights from my work. I might be selling my old canopy with retrofit MH and all.

I'm trying to keep a positive attitude on my tank but I don't want to kill things even though the lighting is supposed to be better. I have been acclimating everything too. The aquarium hobby is one of a kind that's for sure.

Thanks for the support.

Jon

I am thinking about a new reef scape.

Need some help on deciding wether or not I should re-aquascape my tank or not. I kinda feel there isn't very many places for new corals. I never tried stacking rock against the false wall. I was always against this thought but hey it might work. Also I havn't had any coralline growth in 9 1/2 months. I'm going to bring a piece of rock home from work today and see what happens.

Anyone have comments on my current aquascape and maybe some help on what I should do with it is appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

All right, guys. Let's put our minds together and help our fellow member here!

I do think, you need a new aquascape, you have tons of space for new coral... Wha you talk about, Willy's?

How many rocks are we playing in here with? Are they four?

Sorry to break it to you, But I don't like the rock with GSP....Too big and not attractive for your tank...I think that you can have more colors in your tank if you had more frag than colonies, remember space is limited and you don't want to fill your tank with all the same, if you know what I mean... Yea dude I have just been lazy getting corals and such. Maybe i'll gift myself some this week.

Put new bulbs in this morning and the stock hood has actually made me happier. :D

I'm going to re-aquascape it this coming week. Probably pick up some pieces from my work on Tuesday.

What should I do with the GSP?

That's the spirit! Good Luck and have fun!

Just start checking tanks around to have new ideas. I seen were they put GSP in the sand and look like grass, like in this example...

Forget SPS for now, but get small frags to add diversity in colors... B)

Yea I follow his thread and I like what he did with his tank. That's a 29 gallon right?

I'm going to re-aquascape the tank early next week. Then going to get some frags mid week. I'm going to pull the gsp off the rock and probably put it in the sand.

What should I do about my colony of eagle eyes. Would you frag it up and just keep a few pieces? I can always trade some in at my work it's not a problem.

Link to comment

Yeah, that's a 29, but I only used his to set an example. When I worked in my aquascape, it took me about 3 hours, to were I felt comfortable. I saw a lot of pictures, and try to recreate what I seen. Will see how it turn out when it matures.

About you eagle eyes colony, will be your call. I like it. But, I think when your are trying to scape a BC14, you're space limited. I'm trying smaller frags, and more color variety, but again, you have to determine your goal, is all about been creative. Reef tanks are like pieces of art, each of them are unique.

Jon, I'm planning to get a frogspawn for my tank. I'll like to get a purple tip. What you think? Do you think I'll be OK under PC?

I would say that a frogspawn is okay under stock lighting because I used to have one before my tank crashed and it did really well.

I'm debating on wether I should get new frags before or after I re-aquascape my tank.

What does NR think?

I'm thinking in aquascape first, frags later. You want to prevent any damage to new corals. You never know if you go thru a cycle, when you add more rock to your tank. ;)

Your right. I'm going to rescape tonight. Hopefully all goes well.

This is a thread of my 14 gallon Biocube born on August 11, 2008. I plan to build a thriving reef full of color and plan to take things slow.

Remember to stick to the basics, man! You said it..... ;) Hope goes well with your new aquascape!
