Always better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Just remind her who wears the pants in the family. They love to hear that.

she is warming up to it

I put my stand pipe in today, I did something tricky with it

img1777gy0.jpg

looks a little low?? well it is adjustable :) also, a pretty good shot of the Navy Blue back

img1776vz3.jpg

I also built my new sump today from a 40 breeder I got from some pet big box store. then I went to the local glass shop and had them cut me some baffles.

left to right:

first chamber is for the return pump

next chamber is for carbon etc..

next chamber is a mini-fuge

and all the way to the right is the skimmer section

and another full tank shot

Ya mean empty tank shot.

Beautiful job File!

I'm sure the wife will enjoy it when all is said and done. If not, oh well....

Good luck with the set up and transfer.

I'd have to get rid of a love seat to have something close to that size.

Humm, I never really sit in that anyway. Hmm, nope , would never happen. <_<

well I got everything transferred over, just the return pump, skimmer and heater are running, I need to hook up the lights, Kalkwasser and 2-part dosing, ozone, tunze pumps, ACIII computer and other stuff tomorrow.. but for now I am just to tired to even post pics

as in every build thread, here is the obligatory: "look, I spent all day filling my tank and I am now the proud owner of a box of cloudy water and expensive rocks, arn't you guys impressed" LOL

i will put together a rundown of the transfer soon

:P

for lighting i am running 3 X helios 250 watt 20k halides 6 hours a day with 96 watts of t-5 lighting running 3 hours before and after the halides

I have transfered 1 sohal tang, 1 blue tang, 1 purple tang, a pigme angle, a mated pair of true percs, a GHSG, 1 mandrin, a couple of fire shrimp, a grip of snails and hermits, and 18" britle star and a white sand sifting star. I am considering adding 6-12 anthias to make a school but the fis seem fairly happy

Saturday was a long day

it started with one last FTS of the old tank

img1830yw3.jpg

then came the arduous task of removing all the frags, dang, I did not know I had that many. brownie points for anyone who can name them all

img1831gu3.jpg

after that I pulled all the colonys, nothing too exotic

img1832ug2.jpg

and all the rock with clams or colonys attached

img1833wn5.jpg

next I laid out all my rock on visqueen so it would be easy to select pieces for the build, luckily it was cool and overcast so I did not have to spend a bunch of time spraying it down to keep it moist. my 2-year old was a big help, moving the rocks around with his tonka truck :)

img1836sa0.jpg

next I used a roto-hammer to drill holes on the rock and then stacked them like a shish kabob on acrylic rod

img1837ha9.jpg

here is my first pillar

it is just over 18" tall

img1838qu8.jpg

from this point on, my hands were way too wet to take any more photos, but I did complete transering all the rock and aditional water into the tank,

By the time I was done Saturday all I had done was to get the return pump, skimmer, O3 generator, heater and chiller running . nothing else, not even the lights, just enough to keep everything alive over night. the tank ad cleared up nicely in 10 hours here is a side shot through 6 feet of water

img1846of6.jpg

I set up a cable management trough to try and organize my cables and tubes. this way wires are out of the way but I do not have to cut zipties to service equipment

img1873vw3.jpg

I installed a DC-4 in the wet section of the stand to control the kalkwaser pump, 2-part pumps, fuge light and heater

img1872lx2.jpg

in the dry section I installed the ACIII, DC-8, lunersim and Aquasurf to control the fans, lights, chiller, 6100's etc. I know it looks messy but there is an amazing amount of wires in there and everything is laid out in a manner that allows easy access for servicing. there are 2 fans that I have not installed yet to force 100 cfm of fresh air into the dry section to keep my ballasts and chiller happy

img1871fy9.jpg

here is my first FTS with the lights on, with no tripod and no photo skills, I put one 6100 blowing through the canyon between the first and 2nd pillar, kind of cool as it hides it well and creates the kind of current you would expect in a small crack in a real reef. those helios 20ks sure turn that navy blue lighter than I expected, no matter, it will all be green, purple and pink in a few months

Good thing you have a GORGEOUS stand to cover up the nest in there. :D

Really nice job filefish.

i will have to list all the equiptment that is in there but it is amazing that it is than neat and everything is accesable/ servicable without cutting zipties

ACIII

Luner sim

Aquasurf

DC-8

chiller

2X 6100 drive modules

2X 6100 control moduals

O3 genorator

ph probe

ORP probe

Temp probe

250X1 ballast

250X2 ballast

3Xpower supplies

X-10 control distribution

power distribution for:

8 lights

6 powerheads

heater

chiller

return pimp

3 dosing pumps

ozoniser

i am sure i am missing a few things, all crammed into a 24X22X36" space

anyway, i spent about 5 hours cabling the system, it was a lot of work

that is a ton of stuff. :\ Here's mine.

P1010805.jpg everything is 6 feet away because of wiring issues in this old house that's a rental, and I don't feel like running new romex on somebody else property.

so this is odd, the tank runs a lot cooler than my last one. the equipment is almost exactly identical the only thin I did was replace a korelia 3 and modded maxi with a pair of 6100s

the chiller has not turned on once. the heater comes on in the day. before the transfer, I kept my tank at 79 because that is where the chiller seemed at ease, I am considering lowering to 77

in this graph, you can see how the chiller would turn on in the day, I circled those in blue, then you can see the transfer, circled in green. then you can see the heater circled in red

Beautiful tank. It would scare the h?ll out of me not using 2x4 construction for the stand. Especially with a tank that big.
