kinetic
ohh i see that place every time i come by, so their SW its pretty good? They used to have nothing in terms of saltwater, all freshwater. Their freshwater is the best too! Anyways, now it's being led by bookfish, so the saltwater is great. Quote Link to comment
kinetic
I bought two brute trash cans yesterday morning, and started filling them. Today I have one 55g brute filled, I now have to get the other brute 55g filled. My poor RO/DI, it's getting a workout. My DI resin is almost 40% color changed though... so I may need to replace it in a few months. I'm still getting 0ppm on the product water... though going in it's only 36ppm right now =D I love the water in my area. That'll be a total of 110g of newly mixed saltwater. I probably only need 80g, but I'm making more just in case. Plus if I have extra I can do a water change on my prop tank Edited February 3, 2008 by kinetic Quote Link to comment

kinetic
ok ok =) I put my new stuff together and put it in front of my tank and took a picture. ELOS Mg Test Kit and 5 filter socks for my sump: so this morning my two 55g brute trash cans are finally filled! I dumped in more than half a bucket of salt, now they're at 1.025. Tomorrow I will test my display's current water parameters and then I'll test my new batch of Reef Crystals. I've heard the new RC batches have dangerously low Mg and Ca. I may have to supplement. Anyone suggest a Mg supplement? Edited February 5, 2008 by kinetic Quote Link to comment

Anyone suggest a Mg supplement? I just opened up a new bucket of RC myself, so it looks like I'm going to have to do some testing. As for Mg, I use this site for my two part and Mg - http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Calcium,-Alk...c1_4/index.html Quote Link to comment
disaster999
got the same mg test. too bad it only does 100ppm increments. Quote Link to comment
kinetic
i don't have any experience testing for Mg... is 100ppm increments not granular enough to actually get any useful results? Quote Link to comment
disaster999
i guess for the most part...it is enough to get an idea. at least the elos test kit is a lot easier to use. you dont have to use a super small syringe and measure out a hundredth of a ml. but i mean if your levels is at 1600ppm it could be somewhere between 1510ppm and1600ppm Quote Link to comment
kinetic
how funny, my reefcrystals read 1900ppm on my ELOS test kit. I believe I got the batch which needs to be multiplied by 75 instead. anyways, I did the 80-90% water change yesterday, it took hours! (including dinner =) I didn't temp match mostly because I said... no animals, room temp isn't too cold, what the heck. Today I went to the LFS and bought a bottle of Reef Nutrition Tigger pods. I added a few into a glass container to try culturing them, then a quarter of the bottle into the display, and the rest into the fuge. I realized they have nothing to eat, so I added a generous pinch of food to the display and a few pieces into the fuge. I'm experimenting to see if I can actually cultivate these pods. It says to use live phyto, but I only have flake at the moment. They're readily eating it, and I've seen some websites that say flake food is good enough. I'll probably put some phyto in it tomorrow if I can get around to the store. If I'm successful I can use them as live foods =) I will be testing water parameters tomorrow. I spent most of my evening planning a trip to San Diego =) Quote Link to comment
kinetic
My First Frags - [ 2/10/08 ] Water parameters were spot on! Went to a Bay Area Reefers frag swap yesterday, picked up a few frags from Atlantis Aquarium on my way home... and after a 24 hour interceptor / flatworm exit laced dip, a 15 minuted providone/tmpcc, these following 5 frags make it into the display tank. These are the first frags I've added to my ELOS 120: Edited February 11, 2008 by kinetic Quote Link to comment

kinetic
nice choices! now get some fish in there I have 3 neon red eviota gobies, 3 gold striped eviota gobies, and 2 red striped trimma gobies coming in on Tuesday from LiveAquaria. Also 6 trochus snails and 6 nassarius vibex from the carribean. After that I'm going for a trio or quad of ventralis anthias, and ultimately a bellus genicanthus (female). I need to invest in an automatic feeder... and possibly an extra skimmer Quote Link to comment
NanoClown
I think Atlantis has a male its on their site front page, also are you going to keep your flame angel, clowns and the (tailspot? do you still have it?) Quote Link to comment

I didn't see any at Atlantis. I think they had a few square spots and a barlett. I'm keeping the flame angel and clowns in the frag tank. tailspots died =( Quote Link to comment

Your corals will thank you for the anthias, they eat and poop like crazy. Definitely make sure your skimmer is up to the task. Quote Link to comment

I believe spring time is the season for small females to get into the wholesaler's hands, so I'll wait for that. Ventralis just came back in stock at LA, but I just bought a ton of gobies =X I'll wait until next week and then get the ventralis if they're still available. Quote Link to comment
