She greets me every time I look in the tank by swimming right in front of my face. She loves mysis shrimp...she hangs out on top of my live rock in between the oysters usually on a "perch"--a bed of sargassum. My first one went tile surfing...he had a different personality (no joke!). So I must add a warning with this fish: NO open top tanks or propped feeding lids!!! Overall, midas blennies add a splash of color and personality (I like to call it "sunshine) to a reef tank. :happy: Link to comment
ezramore Posted September 29, 2005 Share Posted September 29, 2005 my lawn mower blenny has a good personality. if you give him a placo tab he will carry it around the tank like a little puppy with a bone. and if you stick your hand in the tank it will bite almost every time. he is a very interesting and has quickly become the favorite of most visitors. He eats ANYTHING I put in the tank and is not shy when it comes to feeding time. Open top here, so far no problems. Bob Link to comment
Sebea Posted September 30, 2005 Author Share Posted September 30, 2005 Very cool. I saw a midas at a LFS, and it was hiding in a fake tube coral, sticking his head out. I also like tail-spot blennies, but I think Midas are the coolest. I'm deffinetly getting one for my new tank! Link to comment

I love him cuz he constantly pokes his head out of different holes in my live rock then dissapears inside for a second before peaking out the next. Can blennies change their color at all? I think mine changes because sometimes he has spots, other times he has stripes, and onetime he was all black when i scared him while cleaning. Has anyone ever heard of this? is he sick? I had Barney (midas #1) for 2 months with "no problems". He never swam near the top of the tank, always stayed in the bottom in his barnacle...came home from work one day to find that he had jumped :*( Just be aware. I'd hate for you to lose your beautiful fish from something as simple as not having the tank covered. Link to comment

bunjiweb Posted October 3, 2005 Share Posted October 3, 2005 I have a Tail-Spot Blenny, It's a real character! From what I have read they stay small and are pretty active as far as Blennys go... Mines in a 15G nano with just under 6KG of LR and lots of soft corals. Lives with a yellow clown goby and a B&W clown. Ben Link to comment

I really like the midas blenny, but I think he might get a little cramped in my 20L. I really like the look of the tail spots, but what's is their personality like? Do they hide a lot, ect? bunjiweb Posted October 4, 2005 Share Posted October 4, 2005 Burtnnator, its a great little fish, a real character and VERY active, i just cant get over how active it is considering that it is a blenny, it is ALWAYS out and about, and always investigating things around the tank, or me if i go close enough! Thanks icenine, what size is your tank? some blennys stay very small, we have some in at work at the moment which are *supposed* to stay an inch maximum size. I dont know what their scientific name is but we have called them YellowTail Blennies. Ben Link to comment
