ninhsavestheday
I have the tunze 9001 for about a month now and its still producing micobubbles. Most of it is coming out of the side in particular area which is the middle. Should I just hang in there? Does it need more time to break in? Link to comment
ninhsavestheday
Negative. Its just coming out from the sides Link to comment
ninhsavestheday
check out that one section that spits out bubbles. Link to comment
reefist
Is the water depth correct and the air wide open? Have you ensured that it is assembled properly? Link to comment
ninhsavestheday
Is the water depth correct and the air wide open? Have you ensured that it is assembled properly? How do I know it is the right depth? I try to have it where its at the highest position without the skimmer gurgling. And the air is NOT wide open. should it? Link to comment
reefist
There is a wavy mark on the front of the skimmer that indicates the proper water level. When the air valve is closed water moves through the skimmer body much more quickly, carrying bubbles with it as it exits. Tunze recommends running the skimmer with the valve wide open. I'm not even sure why they include it. I removed mine. Link to comment

reefist
The wavy mark is right on the front below the collection cup. You can raise the line a bit over the water level if it's producing aqueous foam. Closing of the air valve reduces the amount of bubbles which speeds up the water. I know it sounds counterproductive but opening the valve will reduce bubbles exiting the skimmer. Just let the cup fill up until it calms down. Are you using any products like aminos or water conditioners. They can be surfactants that make skimmers over-foam. Sometimes filter media like foam blocks and felts can cause the same problem. Did you open it up to make sure everything is assembled properly? Link to comment
ninhsavestheday
Thats not my skimmer in the pic. Mine has an overflow Just remembered mine is the 9004 not 9001 Link to comment
reefist
Ok, well I have that one two. You want the water level at about 1/4 the way up the intake grill. Can you see an obvious waterfall going into the skimmer? All the other things I said about the 9001 also apply to the 9004 sans the wavy water mark. Link to comment
