zak.payne
Has anyone done this or know of someone who has? The concept seems interesting, although I'm curious how the breakdown compares to buying things separately. I've always known in the past to avoid "kits", but with this one being something that contains only sustainable products...I'm intrigued. http://www.biotaaquariums.com/ Link to comment

zak.payne
Never heard of these..... looks like a Fluval It is a Fluval tank, it's the new Evo they recently came out with (the newer version of the Spec). It's gotten a lot of hate recently. I wouldn't do it. Good to know about that! Maybe I'll just go down the IM route like I've been toying with, especially now that they have a peninsula version of the tank. Link to comment

Clown79
The tank i've heard good things about and i like the look of it. The biota- not so sure on. Link to comment
zak.payne
Do it. Do you know if the peninsula tank comes with a screen top like the other IM Fusions? I looked at the site, and it doesn't look like it...but I could be mistaken. Link to comment
WV Reefer
Ok, I see now. I didn't realize the Biota part of it was including the rocks and sea life. I don't know how I feel about this concept. Link to comment

I don't know how I feel about this concept. Well I mean, it's clearly targeted at people interested in, but intimidated by, the hobby. As such I'm conflicted too. Clearly more people in the hobby is awesome. But the marketing of "now, YOU, Joe-Know-Nothing can have a reef tank too! No knowledge required!" I feel it's a road to failure but I dunno. Clown79
I agree. Its a marketing to get anyone to start a tank but lacking research and understanding, a road to failure Link to comment
zak.payne
Maybe I'll just get the tank then, that looks cool in itself. Does anyone know where I can order it from? Link to comment
Clown79
The fluval evo's are nice. I'm not sure where to buy, here in cda its hit and miss. Contact fluval, they will send you a list of places that sell them. Link to comment

Price wise, if I was that close, I'd save for something that didnt say Fluval on it. I'd be thinking IM Nuvo 20. Link to comment
RIP Sebastian
Fluval Sea is shit. Their AquaClears are the only products or their's I'd ever use for SW, especially since IM released their peninsulas. The canisters they make for FW tanks are nice, though. Link to comment
dandelion
Thought Fluval is a Canadian company. The fluval evo's are nice. I'm not sure where to buy, here in cda its hit and miss. Contact fluval, they will send you a list of places that sell them. I have a Fluval Evo 13.5 and I think the quality is pretty good. Only complain is the weird filtration chamber design. Nothing a quality media rack cannot fix. Fluval Sea is shit. Their AquaClears are the only products or their's I'd ever use for SW, especially since IM released their peninsulas. squamptonbc
They are Canadian, but at least in my little part of Canada their marine aquariums are tricky to find. I only know of 1 store that may sell them, the main marine store went with innovative marine. (in my area BC, can't say how other provinces are.) Clown79
Same here. Only 1 store seems to carry them. I think they are nice tanks. Fluvals been around a long time. I have an IM, I don't really get the hype for them. For the price, I really don't get it. Nice looking but if you're gonna soend the money, go Red Sea. Stock pump sucked on the IM, original media basket was garbage, the intake grill on top should have been lower or had 2 like the biocubes. Chambers are tiny and a PITA to clean. The return nozzle hole has cracked on mine, their skyye light clamp broke completely smashing into the tank, scratching my tank and chipping it. There have been ppl reporting the acrylic that separates the display to chambers has had issues with the seams seperating. I'd say for $200 cda the fluval is well priced. A 20g IM is $465 cda without any upgrades, stand, or light. Link to comment
dandelion
I got mine for $85 and they gave us a $50 gift card with purchase of $125. Heater upgraded return pump and a magnetic cleaner was enough to make it to $125. ? Same here. Only 1 store seems to carry them. I think they are nice tanks. Fluvals been around a long time. squamptonbc
I like the look of some of the IM tanks, but between the tank and the stand costing nearly $600 before tax for the 20 gallon, I decided against upgrading size to one. I've got the Fluval M40, and overall I like the tank, I didn't use the light or skimmer though, but I would never have bought it for it's full retail price, but at 90% off, it was too good a deal to pass up considering it also included the stand. Biggest downside is the back chambers are a pain to clean, but the intank media basket pretty much eliminated that issue. The new Fluvals look decent enough, I just don't like narrow long tanks. ninjamyst
You paying double with biota. I did the math. The fluval evo 13 is a nice tank but you will need to gut it and upgrade light and pump. It's cheap though, on sale all the time online for $120 or lower. Don't get biota, it's a ripoff. Link to comment
Clown79
Well if only doing lps abd softies the fluval light is fine but if sps, the light will cost you regardless. I wouldn't go with the biota. Do it on your own and save the extra money for future livestock Link to comment

dandelion
I actually tried using the stock light on my existing tank. The daylight can make everything washed out but the night light really isn't too bad. even if it's fine for softies and LPS, corals look horrible under the stock light compared to other options out there Link to comment
Saltydude
Save your self some money don't buy the biota kit. If you really wanted you could buy everything they have separately... They only allow like 4 corals is it? 4 corals from them Don't buy the fluval tanks I've herd the quality can be bad Link to comment
