acrab78
Looking into possibly using a par 38 type bulb on my new 5 gallon setup... Where and what type of fixtures can I use? Want something that can either clamp onto the tank or sit on the table next to the tank, like a desk lamp... Anything advise on this? Would any light fixture really work? Thank you and forgive me if this is not a very good question... Link to comment
GunslingerGirl
Coral compulsion has bulbs. I use one and they screw into plain old regular fixtures. Just make sure that the bulb isn't enclosed so it doesn't overheat. AKA take off the lamp shades and metal outsides. I think they also have clamps if you don't want to mess with stuff too much. Or check amazon for a hanging kit that plugs into the wall (no electrician required) if you want to hang from ceiling. Link to comment
SeaFurn
I had recently been looking into fixtures for a PAR38 bulb for my reef bowl. I originally wanted to use a goose neck type fixture that sat on the table next to the bowl (because I can't really clamp a fixture to it) but I couldn't find any long enough. Amazon does have them that clamp on the back of the tank and that would probably work for yours but some of the feedback I read said that the weight of the bulb made them droop. They are heavy bulbs afterall. I ended up using a floor lamp with a goose neck and the weight of the bulb does make it droop. So that would be my only caution with those type of fixtures. You can see my fixture on my thread. SeaFurn's Reef Bowl Build Link to comment
Clown79
I used one with a floor lamp. I simply moded the the light. I used wire from a wire hanger, ran it along the goose neck of the lamp and zip tied it. No issues holding the weight. Coral compulsion also sells their own goose neck. Nother option depending on dimensions is the aquamaxx nemolight nano. Link to comment
blackwagon
Anything will work. It just depends on how hard you want to try. If you are going to use a desk lamp make sure the base is pretty weighted. A light bulb is a lot lighter than an aluminum heat-sink. Link to comment
