Adding doors to open stand...

Hello. I have acquired a used 29 gallon BioCube, which came with an existing stand. The stand is beat up but rock solid, and given that budget is always a concern, I would very much like to use it. My guess is that with a little spray paint, it should be as good as new. However, it is open in the front. If it ever had doors, they are long gone. And I would like to correct that.

Of course, I have no clue on how to do so. I have a miter saw and pocket hole jig. But no table saw, nor any carpentry skill. Any thoughts? Suggestions? If I have MDF cut to size and find some sort of hinges, I would worry about water warping it. Solid wood wood be heavy. Help!? And thanks.

if you have a home depot near you, they will usually cut most wood to a size you need, seal the wood first, then paint, as wood can abosorb moisture and cause issues. its pretty easy if you arent getting fancy with it, they have hinges that are flush fit on the inside so just measure the whole area you want to cover, get a piece of wood that large, and screw on. check out basic cabinet making its pretty simple.

Actually, now that I have looked at needs and location, I am going to need something new. I am considering building something simple... 2x frame with some plywood skin. Couple of areas below for power, supplies, and maybe a future ATO reservoir.

I dont think i will ever actually get a fish :)

You don't need 2x4's plywood 3/4" will do. Very popular ay to join wood is pocket holes, a Kreg jig is a nice tool but there's a cheaper option available at HD

I made this stand long ago for a Biocube 29; I didn' like the height of the stock stand so I made one.
