Lypto
Hello everyone! This will be my first post, and I decided on something a little unorthodox. I wanted to share my DIY jellyfish tank build. Most of us have seen the cubic or jellyfish art tanks, and while great little tanks for beginners and good for keeping 1 or two jellyfish at a time, depending on the size, I decided to build my own. I had a couple of old 10 gallon tanks lying around, and I decided to make my own Pseudo- Kreisel. They are designed to keep delicate organisms in rotation, Simulating open water and depth without pressure. They are often used to grow out baby seahorses and fish or shrimp larvae, as well as jellyfish. I loosely followed Travis Brandwoods design on YouTube and got to work. The plan is to use live rock in the back filter compartment with a pump powering an algae scrubber to use up all the excessive Nitrites and Nitrates generated by the daily feeding of brine shrimp. Oh, and how do I go about putting a quote above my name as well as putting an image? they all seem too big... I'd love to hear any thoughts, concerns, and questions about it and I'll post some pics once the silicones dried and there is enough light to see it. (I messed up a joint and water got in...) happy reefing! Quote Link to comment
Lypto
here is the general idea I drew up in paint, Blue lines represent the mesh and water flow, and the red is a pump/intake flow Quote Link to comment
Lypto
heres the tank almost finished, still need the mesh and plumbing to make a spraybar and algae scrubber Quote Link to comment

Lypto
what would be the benifit of pictures vs thumbnails? Quote Link to comment
Horerczy
Looks cool. Are you going to darken up the baffles so algea doesn't grow into the unreachable areas? Quote Link to comment
Lypto
as I keep the main tumbler clean, the algae will help prevent polyps from landing and stinging my jellies, that way I can relocate them to my breeding system (also in progress),and it shouldn't grow too much If I do my scrubber/skimmer setup right. How would I go about darkening the baffles themselves without adding black acryllic? Quote Link to comment
Lypto
this tank might be on a tiny hold while I get the 20 gallon long rock flower and sps garden up,3 tanks Is a bit much at once for right now Quote Link to comment
Lypto
Hi Everyone! small update here, all I need to do now is glue the screen on and add a diy algae scrubber. oh yea.... the jellyfish, that might be a little harder to get, It would be much easier to get small goose berry comb jellyfish than cold or warm water moons as they wash up live all the time here, does anyone know a local supplier of moon jellyfish in the SoCal area? Lypto
I've made a new thread after a long pause, look for Lypto's jellyfish project if you want to see more. Quote Link to comment
A_Sea_Shepherd
Are you going for moon jellies or those upside down jellies? I was interested in one of those pre-built tanks w/ the vouchers for the jellyfish, until I saw the price. Quote Link to comment
