Tap water in Richmond BC

My LFS said that our tap water here in BC is actually pretty good. Just want to know if anyone here uses tap water? Sorry for a noob question. I`m going to start my 10 gal tank cycle later today and only have tap water available atm, I will be adding a dechlorinator before mixing in my salt. Any tips on how I should do this? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I do know there are some Vancouver area reefers who use tap water with success and don't use RO and others who do. The tap water is high quality with relatively low TDS but still has chlorine in it and you don't exactly know what the TDS is made up of, so I prefer to run the water through RO unit before using.

google canreef with SPS and tapwater and you will find a thread on this topic and its mixed opinion.

Edit: But that is for Vancouver, and Richmond water doesn't appear as clean as Vancouver's and comes from a different source.

Richmond water reports here, personally I would use RO water, and it also appears Richmond uses Chloramines as well where Vancouver only uses Chlorine.

Doh. I shouldn't google so fast..lol... I don't live far from Richmond,BC and should have noticed, brain fart moment.

I would still personally use an RO system but some swear the tap water is good enough, others say RO to be safe.

If you go to the bottom of this link, you will find the sampling results for 2015 (2016 isn't out yet)

Tap water has many elements to it that isn't good for reefs. Even if dechlorinated.

Tap water quality also changes frequently. There are chemicals flushed into plumbing sytems to keep pipes clean, during certain seasons water treatment with chemicals is increased etc.etc

I would purchase distilled water and use that.
