If flatworm exit is used have carbon on hand and be ready to do a few water changes. If you have a bad infestation the die off and the toxins they release when dead can crash your tank. Another way is a yellow damsel that's how my buddy got rid of his. Just something to think about.

(I have had flatworms in a bad way in the distant past.) I would advise to first eliminate as much of the flatworm population first. sypon off what which you see, because when they die they will release toxins. The tank at a place I worked at had a positively disgusting infestation and they didn't do this and they wiped out their tank of about 80% of fish and about that much of the corals. (that and they did not do the carbon thing).

After most of the flatworms are out or you are at a small population, add in the exit. Rock flower anemone and it seems micro carpet nems really don't care much for exit, so you may want to remove them to a different tank shortly after (if they let go) I had trouble with my micros during the treatment.

Use the carbon.

I would actually repeat my treatment 4 times (once a week) to ensure that no eggs hatch and any lucky survives are wiped out. I have been flatworm free for over a year. I even took corals from that infested tank before the FE bomb and eradicated them in the Quarantine. Ensure there is enough flow in the rocks to blow them out of the holes.

Keep a good amount of water on hand for an emergency water change.

Saw this first hand with my work bunging it up.

Thks for all the advices i will start to sypon firts i dont like to use chemical treatments in my reef. This is a big rock but i can give a ro wather treatment but whit my sarcophyton when i did that stay closed for a week or so i dont want to kill the good and the bad things that i have in the live rock.

A yellow damsel... Is hard to find in my country.

Thks for all the help.

it won't really harm anything but the flatworms, admittedly the bristle worms don't like it much either. but you can cull the population with it or put them in some untreated salt when they start to drift. I rescued mine.

this is an example of a horrible infestation. Please note the brown texture on the rocks and the back wall (under the algae) is literal coating of these flatworms. That's what an uncontrolled infestation is like, what it could get to - and ultimately what destroyed the tank at my former work.

Wow at that point I would have broke it down and started over its bad. I saw a reefer getting out a little back and went to his house to buy his corals. He not one time mentioned flatworms so a it later I'm looking around his tank and thought I saw something. So I asked him mind if I grab that coral I really like and look close he was hesitant but said sure I brought it to the glass the moved it right infront of his power head yep they flew off. I looked at him and said really you weren't going to say anything? He knew and said sorry but he need to recoup some money I then said not on me and left with my cash.

Btw.. I read that mandarin fish eat flatworm can anyone confirm that or is just bad info?

ok hold on info needed how long have you had this tank ?

a mandarin to my knowledge dont eat fw.

a Mandarin needs a almost endless supply of pods unless the are eating frozen.

and please dont add one that a lfs tells you is eating frozen unless you make them feed it and you see it eat the frozen. so many of these fish are killed each yeah due to new reefers loving their colors and not knowing their needs and a lfs just wanting a sale.

once you kick this fw problem please dip your coral trust none saying their tanks are pest free. your display is yours messing it up isnt worth a 10 buck frag.

please keep asking here alot of knowledge here use it.

on that note good luck with this please keep us informed.

You know a quick dip in coralRX, iodine solution, or FW dip will remove them pretty completely... Surprised he didn't simply offer to dip the frag for you or something...

Anyways I have them in my tank but oddly enough they've never gotten to plague proportions. I can't exactly say why - I don't have any fish or inverts that are particularly well known to eat them. They're super easy to siphon out with a length of airline tubing. Zip tie some panty hose on the bucket end of the hose and that will catch the flatworms so that you can return the water you sucked out back to the tank if you would like. Or you can just replace with fresh mixed as the airline tubing is just enough suction to suck up the flatworms but not much water.

I took corals from that infested tank,a ctually they are in my display right now, but not before they went through a thorough cleansing and QT,

My tank is a 50g and i have it for one year now, but my live rock has a few years, i read that in a post in a forum that afirmed that the mandarin eat it i doubt that so i asked, in the moment i have no fish in my tank cause a few weeks ago i aded a powder blue that had crypto and lost him and a bicolor blenie a pyjama and a sailfin cause the seller just want to sell the fish now i am running a uv light 24h and will wait 8 weeks or so to add new fish. The flatworm issue came from another fish store in a sarcopyton.

Please don't take this the wrong we have all been there excited about a tank and wanting it to be glorious fast. But we also forget in this hobby nothing happens fast. Ok first off the tangs have no business in you tank it's way way to small for them to dart around like tangs like to do.

Now since you don't have any fish I would go get flatworm exit and take care of the flat worms ASAP just follow the directions on the box.

The crypto let it run its corse like you are doing it will die off with no hosts to live on . Please don't put any fish in this tank anytime soon.

Now a lot of this could have been avoided by having a small qt set up and dipping your corals. Remember a lot of stores and reefers in this hobby will sell you something they know has a problem but won't tell you just to make a sale.

Some it's a accident and they truly didn't know but when it comes down to it ,it's your display and extra headach that could have been avoided with a simple qt process. Agian this isn't trying to be mean this is trying to give you something to think about.

I have never seen coral fx work on flatworms. I dip all corals and got FW.

I actually experimented. The coral fx did nothing but a freshwater dip worked well

Btw 80gal reef 300l ... I had mess up the mathematic

I have some experience but i learn some new thing everiday, i agree whit you but, a qt tank, my whife don't allow it cause of the space and the powder blue was a fish that she likes and you should know "happy wife happy life..." lol and the seller said that the fish was there for a long time that was qt and all that i belived and put it in my display when he gets biger is a good escuse to upgrade the tank, but sadly crypto pops up and it was a sad story... I don't think any time soon to add fish to the tank, i whant that my pets have a good and helty life the best that i can give to them so...

The flatworms for now i think that only cause problems in my sarcophyton and in that piece of ricordea both i gave a ro whater dip and the sps and the gps are free from it but only time will say...

I may have been lucky but I had flatworm problems a few months ago, my lfs swore they use scooter blennys who clean up thier shop tanks of flatworms. I also try to avoid pesticides as much as pos. I bought a scooter blenny, he nailed the lot in 2 weeks. He's a great little addition and does a little display dance sometimes after I feed him. :). I guess though each fish are different so it may/may not help with you.

Once my flatworms were gone though my scooter needed plenty of food, they are always on the move, thankfully I have a tank with lots of Copepods, and I feed heavy also to try and keep him healthy. Something to think about.

If it's terrible problem definitely go with what everyone is recommending flatworm exit.
