Hi guys and happy new year long time reader and lurker first time poster. Well I have a 29 gallon bio cube that has been up and running since January 2012. We had twins and I had to break down my 90 gallon reef wife said it took to much space.

So I removed it and went and purchased this bio cube and love it some rock and sand was transferred over along with live stock which is 3 green bta , 2 mated clowns a stary blenny, yellow wrasse and a yellow tailed damsel and a stout cuc.

The tank it's self is mostly stock other then taking the lid off and adding 2 kessil 150w sky blue lights and 2 power heads. Well here is a few pics hope you like it.

Oh I also use no mechanical filtration I do 4.4 gallon water changes a week and have a filter floss I change every 2 days in the tray that came with the tank.

I have been thinking of doing a sump to add more water volume and maybe pick up a skimmer what are your thoughts ?

Nice tank. I have a biocube 29, still stock lighting but with the inTank nedia rack. I tried 2 diff skimmers but they just couldn't do much more than very light skimmate. I wish I had a sump on mine - with a sun coral and mandarin it is very heavily fed and nitrates run 15 to 20. My 75 with a sump runs 0 nitrates, I am always trying to up the nitrates in it a bit.

Yeah I am seriously thinking a sump is in the near future also thinking of getting a nuvo 30 but haven't seen one in person and would like to see how the back over flows are first. What's the intank media baskets?

Nice tank - thanks for sharing!

I like the layout of the rock as well as the placement of the anemones - though I would be super worried that they're so close to the pumps. If they let go they'll most certainly get sucked in!

Also really like those hairy shrooms!

Nice tank!

Intank media baskets are made by Intank (a sponsor of this forum). They're great! I have one in my bc29 too

Yeah for the longest time the nems had me worried but for years the have only moved a little bit.

And thanks for the like of the rock work only problem with it is you can't vacume the sand in the cave but so far so good.

And thanks fishfreak I'm checking them out now

When I first heard of the inTank basket when I had a bio14 I thought it was too much $ so I made one out of egg crate. It was a PITA to get in and out and just didn't do much. I broke down and ordered the in Tank basket and what a difference. The water goes thru it not around and my water quality and clarity improved greatly. When the 14 sprang a leak and we replaced it with the 29 I ordered a basket immediately. With how heavy I feed in that tank, I credit the media basket (with filter pad on top, carbon and phosguard on lower shelves) with keeping the nitrates under 20. They really are worth the money.

Nice tank. I like the rockwork with the cave.

Try using a turkey baster to blow deteritus in the cave and then syphon it out, that will help.

Yeah newstead I'm ordering one now watched a few videos and I think it will help out greatly. How often are you changing your media and pads?

And thanks clown for that idea trying it next Friday during the WC

Filter floss should be changed 1-3 times a week. basically when its brown, change it out.

Carbon, most change it every 2-4 weeks. I rinse my media bags every week because gunk builds on them, then change out carbon every 3 weeks.

Phosguard is harder to determine when it needs changing. You need to test phos with a low range test kit like salifert. If you see phos, time for it to be changed.

Phosguard is best to be used in small quantities with testing.

Right on man I have to be honest I haven't checked for anything in at least a year I've never noticed a problem to become alarmed in a very very long time

I got the Intank a few months ago and LOVE it!

I am sure you won't be a ditz like me but for some reason I missed the memo about pulling the floor out. I thought they had shipped me the wrong size and had a very embarrassing phone call. YIkes- Thank goodness the Intank crew is so nice!

It has greatly helped out my tank. I bought their filter floss and it really does a fantastic job.

Great work on your tank! I love seeing other BC29's- It gives me great ideas since mine in only a year old :-)

So can you pull the floor as the tank is running ?and thanks I can't wait to get it either

There is a video on their site that shows how to cut and remove the rims inside the 2nd chamber if needed - I did since I was also running a Tunze skimmer. I change the filter pad on top 2 to 3 times a week and the carbon biweekly.

So all this talk got my looking and chamber 1 where the water comes in was disgustingly filled with a mud like sludge so I did a fast 5 gallon water change sucking all that crap out is there a way to not have detritus and sludge build up in there or should I just everyother water change clean in there? Mind you this was the first time I've ever cleaned in there

I had the identical situation- I didn't take out the bioballs from mine, then when I pulled them out there was a huge layer of disgusting sludge. I was so grossed out. I have had the Intank media basket, filter floss and their Chem Pure and the layer hasn't returned in the other portion of the back chamber. Yes the floor just pops out really easy. For some reason it wasn't on the video I had watched but once I went looking for it I had no problems!

Oh, boy, do I remember that. I still use a turkey baster to suction out crud in all 3 back chambers at least once ir twice a month, but nowhere near the amount that used to accumulate.

Do you guys have the bottom set of slits closed off in chamber one? On the back wall in the tank I mean the ones for the water to go into the chamber
