msparklym13
Hi Reefers and Happy Saturday! Soooo.... who has a pain in the ass Clown who attacks the moment your hand enters the tank? My last set of clowns turned vicious. After a tank crash I bought a single hoping all would be good. First few months, no problem- Now I have Cujo in a clown costume cruising my tank. The moment I put my hand in the tank it is full attack mode. No fear of me and bites - it is horrible. I have read about gloves but was wondering if anyone had found something that is fitted enough to work on corals (mainly aiptasia killing and bubble algae scraping). Side note, are there any clowns who don't turn into giant A holes?? I remember when I first started the hobby it was my goal fish and now I am thinking of keeping others. My six line is three times the size of my clown and a total sweetheart. Thanks for your tips! Link to comment
Groot
My clown hits me pretty hard and bites as well but it really doesn't bother me where I need to get gloves. Link to comment
Droy008
I just punched mine in the nose and she backs off now. Link to comment
msparklym13
I just punched mine in the nose and she backs off now. I do the same thing- doesn't faze snowflake. She turns around and charges me :-( My clown hits me pretty hard and bites as well but it really doesn't bother me where I need to get gloves. I'm probably a baby but it throws me off and I spend the whole time knocking her away instead of being able to focus. Link to comment
teenyreef
Mine have always done it, but when I moved them from the 10g tank to the 40g tank, they almost completely stopped. Now they only do it when I get too close to the spots where they hang out. Link to comment
Clown79
YES! Mine is relentless when she attacks. Its hard to do maintenance. I actually purchased Atlas Nitrile Aquarium gloves. They go straight up the arm. Great for your safety and the tank inhabitants safety. They are much easier to work with than the standard aquarium gloves. Drsfostersmith and amazon has them Link to comment

I always flick mine away when he comes near me. Link to comment
Clown79
Not a wimp. I suffer severe sensitivity, even the water causes severe irritation. It also prevents anything thats on my skin from entering into the tank. Link to comment

asting
I had a pair in a 29 some years ago. They were brutal. Any part of the tank mama clown would charge. I flicked them so many times, no result. I just learned to tolerate it. Current clowns are scaredy cats and hide when I move quickly towards or slowly enter the tank. I give it another month. jtwisconsin
My vivid fancy was a saint when younger, but after two years it started hitting my hand and biting when I was doing maintenance. Now when I'm in there I give it a good flick back after the first attack and it usually backs off for a few minutes. Link to comment

Clown79
Groot I know you were kidding. Lol. If you have sensitive skin it could be anything from bacteria, the salt, or even the products we dose, carbon etc. I decided it was just better using gloves(although a pain). Its helped a lot. My skin would burn, get itchy, and blotchy red. Now it doesn't ? Link to comment
SonRK
My clown would nip at me, but then realized eventually that I was the hand of God. I either bring food, or bring water changes (which still scares my clowns after a year and a half). They leave me alone for now Link to comment
