Do you QT live rock that you buy from Big als or any LFS? I am planning just to get one baseball size live rock from Big als. I am wondering if you guys QT live rocks as well.

I have caught a couple on frags and rock in just a few days. Inspect it carefully on all sides. If I find one I use a syringe and needle to inject lemon juice or kalk paste into it and epoxy over it. Then keep watching - I did that to one on a small rock with a mushroom on it, and a couple of days later one popped out a hole opposite of where I epoxied it. I hate those things!

Nope. I don't. Things can show up at any time.

I just use aiptasia x on aiptasia.

I've never had any major issues with liverock. I brush down any debris, i have dipped it in a bucket of Sw water to remove yuckies, examine it for aiptasia or algae, remove/treat and add to tank.

Is this for an established or cycling tank?

You could look into caribseas liferock. Its aragonite rock injected with bacteria. Looks like established liverock.

+1 is this for a new tank or established tank?

If it's for a new tank, and assuming it's the only thing in said new tank, then just add it because the DT would essentially be acting like a QT... You usually have a little time between adding the rock and the other animals to deal with any potential issues like hitch hikers.

If your tank is already established then I would recommend making sure the rock is fully cured. Never trust a store/online vendor when they say that rock is fully cured. If you add rock that is anything less than 100% cured to your established tank you could experience an ammonia spike as dead things on the new rock (sometimes you can't even see it - deep in holes and such) decompose. You don't have to do much... Basically put it in a bucket of SW for like 2, maybe 3 days - test ammonia a few times during that time. If ammonia is undetectable then you're probably okay to add it to the DT. If ammonia is present you'll need to leave it in a bucket (might want to add a powerhead and a heater) and let it finish curing - between a few days to a week or more, depending.

If it's uncured live rock then you definitely should not add it to an established DT. Cure it in a bucket, usually for multiple weeks. If you're interested in preserving life use a soft cycle method.

Finally, if the rock is dry base rock then you can add it directly to your established DT immediately. I would hose it off thoroughly though to remove any dust/dirt/powder.
