open water fish for 16g cube

Im setting up a 16g cube (15x15 17" high).

Its my first saltwater and will have easy corals and inverts.

Ill probably get one or two tiny gobies.

I wasnt planning any bigger fish but am thinking one more open water fish would be nice.

What options do I have?

Ive read the sticky thread in beginners lots.

Im not a fan of clowns.

I do like green chromis which it suggests is ok in 10g but they get to 4" right?

I like banggai cardinals but ive read different things about them. They only get to 3" and apparantly arent that active but most people seem to suggest bigger tanks.

There are a few others in that thread that I quite like too but am mostly curious about the above.

Any other easily kept mid water fish?

Tank will be set up with rock in a sort of high mound in the center.

A single chromis or bangii would be fine. Your choice depends more on what you like more. A chromis or a similar damsel species would equate to more color and movement.

A bangii has impressive contrast, however, is a much more sedentary fish.

There are various options it just depends on compatability. I'd choose 1 then look for a fish thats compatable.

Chromis are bright and free swimming

Royal gramma are nice

Purple firefish are beautiful

Bangii seem to just sit there.lol.

Orchid dottyback

There are a lot of options.

+1^ to Clown79's suggestions.

But, I would lean towards an assessor basslet. They're smaller than orchid dottybacks and royal grammas. Wonderful fish almost always have a lot of character and they are available captive bred from ORA and a few other breeders.

Springer's damsel would be way up on my list. Cheap, like $5 - $10, very peaceful and most will eat flatworms. They have been much less aggressive than blue/green chromis in my experience.

Thanks for all the options.

Final decision will be up to my wife now. She has always been borderline on even having a tank but ive bought one anyway.

Ill let her pick :)
