Ecotech Radion xr15w Pro G3/G4 Question(s)

Hey guys,

 

So on my IM Nuvo Fusion 20, I am running 2x Kessil a160we's. They are serving me well and as I run 2, shadowing is not an issue. They are simply the loudest thing on my tank however, and although not typically "loud", it does bother me, as I aim for a near silent tank as possible. (yes they are cleaned regularly with compressed air to ensure there is no buildup of dust)

 

My 1st question is How does the xr15w fair for noise? I read that the G4 has redesigned heatsinks for more silent operation, but I'm not prepared to lay down $560 CAD to not be happy with the noise level.

 

Question #2 is How do you find the rainbow/disco effect for the Radion G3/G4? Being a Kessil guy, I am used to perfect blending of colour and no more "disco" with dancing colours everywhere. I also understand that the G4 has different optics to assist with spread, so as to maybe help in this regard?

I don't notice any "disco" with my XR30 Gen 3 Pro using the RMS over my 50g "cube", and from what I've seen of the Gen 4, the spread is even better, so I imagine there would not be any with it either.

 

As for sound, I can't really hear my Gen 3, but then again, I didn't really notice my Kessils (A160 or A350) either - I only hear/ heard them when I got up close to the fixtures, but then again, my hearing is not what it used to be after riding a motorcycle for 20 years...
