I've never seen one in a store. These aren't very abundant in the reefs either, that may be why you don't see them for sale.

As much as they are photosynthetic, they do actually require feeding in aquaria, a high nutrient tank would be needed. They apparently aren't that easy to keep in reef tanks due to the amount of food they require.

Very good info on them.

This is the only stereonephthea that I've ever seen for sale other than one-off ones in Diver's Den: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+2341+2512+2597&pcatid=2597

They are tiny (and I mean 1/2" tall kinda tiny) and may not survive. Mine detached from the plug in shipping and disappeared, never to be seen again.

Looks nice but 30 for a 1 inch piece  now that's a buzzkill ;)

Lol. You'd hate living in cda. Most 1/2-1" frags are $25+

Yeah but that's Canadian so a little cheaper

Its nuts what some places charge for coral......

I got a purply pink one from Diver's Den. It is a good size - about 5" tall, 4" across. While photosynthetic, they do need regular feeding to be happy. They are listed as purple tree corals in divers den and only come up every so often. LA does sell others - but they always seem to be out of stock.

Same thing for me - - and it was a half inch tall fully open  I was pretty disappointed when I opened it.

I have only seen one at an lfs around here and it was mislabeled as a kenya tree. When I finally went back a few days later it was sold.
