Droy008
One of the new reef salt options that has caught my eye is the Aquaforest probotic reef program. I am looking at jumping ship with my RSCP salt. But before going all in, I was hoping to get some feedback from some of the members that have tried it. If you have been using it. How consistent are the Alkalinity levels? How have your corals, specifically SPS, responded to it? Are you using the whole program or just parts of it? Link to comment
Sherman
Hi Droy008, I convert to Aquaforest since April 2016. Dissolve very easily. Every pail has a QC slip where it print the Batch number and all the critical parameter. And so far after using 3 pails ,the Alkalinity is all less then +/- 0.2 difference I personally notice blue sps start to display stronger after first 3 days of changing from DD to Aquaforest Probotic Salt. Not sure others has the same observation. I start with only the probotic salt. The follow by the nitrient control products. I am using NF Pro and Pro Bio S with phosphate minus(after I finish my rowa) So far PO4 and NO3 is maintain between 0.015 to 0.04 for PO4 and NO3 between 0.1 to 0.5 When my other supplement is finish I will convert to Aquaforest also Link to comment

Sherman
No. I nvr use components 1,2,& 3 I intend to use their A,B,E,V. Link to comment
markalot
Droy, how long have you been reefing? I ask because the full probiotic is really for experts and I've witnessed a few people now on RC seriously harming their tank not understanding how it works. There are a lot of products, a few that contain copper to help lighten up corals. It's most likely very similar to Zeovit, except they publish what is in the little bottles. I would recommend looking into their reef salt if you need something with a KH around 7.5. I use this and some low dosing (2 drops a day in 150 gallons) of MicroE and Kalum and am seeing good results. For PO4 control I chose to use PhosphateRx, which may or may not be dangerous long term since it will increase Lanthanum concentrations in the tank. Anyway proceed with caution. If you've used a system like zeovit before your probably well prepared, otherwise I think you're on the right track with a lower KH salt but personally I would stay away from the probiotic jazz. Clown79
Markalot brings up an excellent point. Their system is geared to experts and larger tanks. They aren't really designed for nanos and its easy to overdose them in a nano tank. I looked into it myself and was advised by many not to do it in a nano. Its literally 1 drop every 3 days. Ppl who don't have large systems and aren't experts have run into many issues with the supplements. Link to comment
Droy008
See this is why I am asking about it here. I knew after looking into the program that it was way more involved. I'm hoping to be able to bring more stable conditions to my tank and after reading all the reviews about it, I figured I'd ask more about it. Do you think I could start with just the salt, components 1,2,&3 as well as their pro bio S? Link to comment
Clown79
You can use the salt but to be honest, and the dosers for ca, alk, mag should be fine. The other's like a, b, e, v work together and not designed for nano's. I chose not to get into using the system, the money isn't worth 1 drop a week. I also took the advice i got from others. Most of the users I have seen with success had 60+ gallon tanks. Link to comment
Droy008
After doing a bunch more research. I am going to just start with the salt. I have been having great success with esv's B-ionic. So I likely won't be trying their components 1,2,&3, at least not yet. Link to comment
Clown79
I find esv to be great. Its easy to use as well Link to comment

Bamzam
Are the warnings above related to a program with supplements? Or just the salt? Don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm finally getting a RODI to make my own salt for my 12 gallon and I was about to buy a bucket of the Aquaforest probiotic salt... Link to comment

Clown79
The warnings are for using their system, not the salt. I'd use the regular salt. Link to comment

You can use Probiotic or just the reef salt. Reef salt is a bit cheaper too. Low Alk levels around 7.7dKH. Youll get a little slip of paper in the box that will tell you what the test results of that batch were. Link to comment
Droy008
The pribiotic Reef salt is primarily geared towards being used with their program, If you are just looking for a salt, then I would go with the regular reef salt. I used the probiotic salt on my 5 gallon and I had a nice bacterial bloom the following day. Link to comment
basser1
While I don't consider myself to by an expert by any means, but I am using the AF products. I recently switched form RSCP as well because I got tired of messing with the high Alk. I'm starting out with the Pro-Biotics salt, components 123, and dosing NP Pro and Pro Bios S at the rate of 1 drop every other day. Right now I'm dialing in the alk dosage and once I get that then the other components should follow in line. Does not sound too complicated to me as long as I stay on top of testing. With the help of a AF "guru" on RC (I think Mark knows who I'm talking about), I think I can be successful. Time will tell..... Link to comment
Droy008
Please keep us updated. I am dosing pro bio S and NP pro 1 drop a week. So far I can say that my nitrates and phosphates are steadily dropping. One thing to note is that I am still dosing NoPox. Link to comment
Droy008
So as a follow up to starting the Aquaforest program I figured I'd give you guys an update. So far I have been doing weekly 10% water changes. I dose 1 drop of Pro Bio S and NP Pro on Monday and Friday In conjunction I run Purigen and Seachem's Seagel. I have also been dosing the B-Ionic ESV 2 part. My Nitrates are consistently around 1-5ppm (It's hard to tell with the API test) Phosphates are at 0.06 via Hanna, Prior to starting the AF I was at 0.2! My Coral have been coloring up immensely, most notably with my SPS. I will say that I have had to increase my feeding because of the lower nutrients. I feel like this is the reason my coral have responded so well. With that I am looking at starting to supplement with Aquaforest's AF Energy and Build. Has anyone had any experience with these?
