Simple 2.5 frag tank (NOW A FLUVAL EDGE)

So i have had this super simple, low budget mini reef/frag tank I put together with equipment I had laying around and the rock and corals actually came from a reef jar I had that basically crashed from a summer heat spike.

Here are some specs:

Tank-2.5 gallon glass with glass lid

Heat-preset submersible heater

Filter-$10 topfin submersible filter

Lighting-desk lamp with eBay reef led

Current stock:

1 hermit, 1 astraea snail, 1 credit snail, various zoas, pods, mini stars

As mention. The rock came from a reef jar that crashed and one small piece from my 50 gallon reef. Some zoas survived and I threw some macro algae in for added filtration. Mad a small drag rack to hold a few frags I picked up at reef a palooza this weekend but the tank over all has been running for more than a few mo the now.

I do virtually nothing to the tank, add water when evaporated which isn't much with the glass lid. And a small water change now and then. But you want pictures I'm sure ;)

The goal with this tank was simple setup and little maintenance. Was originally a place to hold all the taro tree corals I was giving to a friend that he wanted for his new tank. Then it was going to be a place to house some of those interesting pests I might come by. Seems it has turned I to my mini frag tank also now lol.

Just noticed this. It's a cool little tank.

I always keep my little 3 gal "junk tank" around and it's always coming in handy. I've used it as a quarantine tank, a tank for extra frags I haven't yet decided what to do with, a tank to put a little Watchman Goby in cause its big brother was harassing it, etc.

Come on people, someone else comment on this neat little tank.

Thanks for the kind words. I really do enjoy the simplicity of this little setup. Pretty much self sustaining too. All the frags are doing really well. Snails and hermit cruising around. Was tossing around the idea of adding another critter or tiny goby... the the fact that I really dont do anything to it but look at it is really nice. I have my cad lights 50 reef down stairs for the fish and critters to feed so, may just add more little frags in the future. :)

Interested in this setup. What/how often do you feed?

Actually I only drop in like a few pellets once a week since the hermit eats so little and kinda grades all over all day. And the corals rely I. Their photosynthesis :)

I am actually toying around with movi g this setup into my fluval edge since it recently became vacant. My beta I had for years passed so now it's just alot of plants and snails and a shrimp, thinking I will move all of that into my sparsely planted 10 gallon and get the fluval reef going, always wanted to do an edge reef :)

If I do, I'm hoping to run it still in the same manner, very simple.

Some new pics. The nudi was upsetting the zoas, as was expected from time to time, but he looks meat lol. I'm currently acclimating a black barred goby and Pistol Shrimp pair to dominate this tank :-)

Love this little tank. I have a spec 5 laying around that used to be my qt, but keep thinking that it would be neat to do a no worry tank for the bedroom.... but do I really want 3 tanks? Enjoying this one!

Thanks :)

My vote is go for it. This makes 4 tanks for me, + my small pond in the back lol so 5 haha. You already have the tank and all, and if you plan I it being simple and not a Coral show tank then shouldn't be a hindrance ;) this is also just purely for enjoyment in our master bedroom. Keeping it simple. My 50 gallon is my Coral tank ;)

Some updated tank pictures. The zoa pest nudibranch is cruizcruising around, interesting little dude. And the goby is getting g used to things, Sony ever see the shrimp though but I know he is there cause the sand mounds change daily.
