aznt1217
Hello All, It's been a while since I posted but it's the first I encountered of this in all my years of reefing. I have a NC28 with a couple LPS, 2 clowns and an orange and white banded sailfin goby. These guys have been together for years. I was feeding my fish and noticed that my 8+ year old clownfish had a swollen eye. I suspect she rubbed on a rock as she's swimming normally and was eating. Has anybody seen a case like this so severe? I quickly put a poly filter in the 2nd chamber and am going to do a 5 gallon water change tonight. I'll ultimately change out more but I don't want to shock the fish. I know my water is dirty -- getting around to doing a big water change soon. Link to comment

ajmckay
Ooh that's pretty nasty... Look up unilateral exophthalmia. Anyways I would try to maintain very high water quality for a bit and observe carefully for any further signs of injury. If other fish take the opportunity to pick on it you may need to remove the clown to allow it time to recuperate. If it gets worse (more inflamed) or starts happening to the other eye then you'll likely need to remove it and treat in a hospital tank. Link to comment
aznt1217
50% Waterchange done and she's still eating. Eye doesn't look cloudy. I hope she pulls through. Thanks all. At least I know I'm not crazy that it looks REALLY bad Link to comment

uwdanno
Wow. Very unfortunate. Wondering if its some sort of infection or parasite. Link to comment
aznt1217
Goodness it's BIGGER. I don't have another tank or medication. That and I feel like the stress will kill her. She's still eating though... Link to comment

ReefWeeds
I wouldn't wait on doing some massive water changes. As long as you're matching salinity and temp, you won't shock the fish. If it's getting worse, the pressure is continuing to build. Or like the others have said, put in a hospital tank. Link to comment
Newstead
Look up Epsom salts, they might help reduce pressure. I have a clown with a tumor on her face but after a year it is not quite as big as that. While we were treating her for bacterial/parasite/fungal infection in case she did fone in a hospital tank - just a regular 10 gallon with lid, AC70 filter and heater. Link to comment
Clown79
Even one of those cheap tanks at walmart, the small ones, plastic would work as a hospital tank. Get a betta heater for it. Do a water change, use that for the hospital tank and medicate. Even a new bucket would work in an emergency. It doesn't have to be fancy. Link to comment
aznt1217
Sigh just wanted to update you guys. She did not make it. She passed last Friday Thank you for all the help all. I get the whole QT tank thing or even a bucket but I feel like the stress would have been way worse. I guess 8 years is a good run. Link to comment
